Job Title: Boys Director of Coaching 

Business: WNY Flash Academy

Reports To:  Executive Director of Coaching

Hours per Week: Full Time 40+

The primary responsibilities of the Director of Coaching include overseeing the administration of the WNY Flash Academy and the development of quality soccer coaches, complete soccer players and successful soccer teams in a safe and supportive environment.  The Director of Coaching presides over all required program activities and events; teaches valuable sporting skills such as teamwork, fair play, excellent work ethic, and sportsmanship; and works with the Executive Director of Coaching who will assist in your development.  

The Director of Coaching’s responsibilities fall within three categories: (1) Director-level responsibility for administration of the WNY Flash Academy, (2) supervision of those who Coach teams within your area of responsibility, and (3) responsibility for the development of players on teams within your area of responsibility.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Club Administration  

Club Policies, Guides and Handbooks:   The DOC is expected to understand and fulfill the intent of core Club policies, including: Club’s Mission, Vision and Core Values.  Club Methodology. Player & Parent Handbook. Team Management Guide.  The DOC should participate in annual reviews and suggested updates/revisions to core Club policies.   Equipment and Facilities: The DOC is responsible for distribution and collection of Club equipment, including soccer balls, pinnies, cones, nets, training gear, etc.   Report broken equipment or similar issues to the Executive Director of Coaching. Conduct or delegate mid-year inventory check (between Fall and Spring seasons) to ensure that all Coaches within your area of responsibility have full allotment of equipment.   Enforce and oversee compliance with contractual provisions of Coach’s contracts relating to timely return of equipment at year-end.  Tryouts and Team Formation: lead and oversee tryouts.  Play active role in the college placement process for WNY Flash players.  Supervision of the Risk Management requirements: Secure your own Risk Management Pass. Ensure compliance with all Risk Management requirements of coaches within your area of responsibility, including: Background check. SafeSport. Others that may arise. Address grievances and enforce Codes of Conduct:   The DOC is expected to intervene and address soccer-related concerns that rise above the level of the Coach and before it must be elevated to Executive Director.   The DOC will play an appropriate role in handling Code of Conduct violations and concerns involving Players and Parents within your area of responsibility.   Work towards overall growth of the WNY Flash Academy: Retain players and teams.  Ability to identify and recruit players outside of the WNY Flash.   Mindfulness to opportunities for merger, expansion and additional programming. Explore and encourage opportunities for fundraising and advertising.  

Development and Supervision of coaches  

The DOC is responsible for the supervision of all coaches within your area of responsibility:   Spend time every month observing coaches within their training and game environments. Conduct at least one annual face-to-face meeting with each coach to provide feedback, guidance and performance reviews.  Conduct additional evaluation meetings as needed.   Work with coaches to draft outline of goals specific to individual coach, intended to chart progress and advancement towards becoming a better coach.   Work cooperatively with your Coaches to ensure the success of your Program and players.   The DOC is expected to timely communicate to the Executive Director of Coaching concerns about the performance or quality of coaches.   You will play an appropriate supervisory role in the discipline, termination or advancement of coaches within your area of responsibility.   Plan and participate in quarterly meetings with the Executive Director and all DOC staff to discuss performance of coaches across the Club.   Be a Team player.  Attend to all of your required obligations and responsibilities for the Girls Program.  Fill in or assist your coaches when needed. Mentor/ guide and develop the Girls coaching staff. 

Development of Teams and Players

Determine competitions and events. Prioritize Individual and Team player development while fostering a love of the game. Participate in extra activities when available for the growth and development of your players.  Set season goals for your program and your players.  Annual evaluation of progress towards goals.   Conduct appropriate age level training sessions in preparation for competition. Strive for continuous program and player improvement through.  Improve your skills and value through additional training and development. Coaching education through US Soccer Licensing.  Learn your players strengths and weaknesses. Show passion for the sport of soccer through enthusiasm on the field. Conduct one-on-one player evaluation meetings mid-season and end of season, using an approved process. Ensure regular and effective communication with your Team’s parents and players; answer emails within 24 hours.  Assign Team Managers with DOO and communicate frequently, ensuring consistent and informative management of your program.  Attain the Coaching License required to coach in your team’s League.

Requirements: USSF “B” License, or Equivalent, minimum 5 years club coaching experience, minimum 2 years DoC experience

Complete Risk Management requirements to secure your Risk Management Pass which includes:  Background check.  SafeSport. Attain the Coaching License required to coach in your team’s League.

SKILLS: 

Highly self-motivated with a desire to be successful.  Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and through email. Positive attitude, great work ethic, high level of customer service delivery. Excellent organizational and prioritizing skills.
