As the Director of Biostatistics, this individual will lead and coordinate efforts within the Biostatistics department, managing client-facing work with strategic and technical expertise. This individual will understand key themes and challenges for observational registries and leverage team strengths to allocate work effectively. This role demands a proven track record in managing technical individuals and overseeing multiple projects, ensuring scientific rigor, innovation, and client satisfaction.

A day in the Life:

Develop and align team vision, resources and activities to achieve goalsTrain and mentor department members, establishing training standards and continuing educationOptimize project allocation and facilitate biostatistical growth within the teamDrive planning and execution discussion with clients and senior management, anticipating issuesExplain highly technical concepts to senior managementImplement the vision for future steps within BiostatsGain consensus across functional leads and implement policies and proceduresDevelop strategies for cross-functionality with other departmentsRepresent Thermo Fisher Scientific at client meetings, professional meetings and symposia

Keys to Success:

Education

Doctorate or Masters’ degree (with appropriate experience), education in Biostatistics, Statistics or Mathematics (or equivalent)

Experience

Minimum 10+ years of experience in a research or medical settingAt least 6 years managing biostatisticians, ensuring accuracy and program documentation in a fast-paced environmentMinimum 4 years’ management experience, including supervising individuals and critiquing performance

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Knowledge of retrospective and prospective observational study designs and methodologyFamiliarity with R and GithubExperience with longitudinal, observational dataStrong communication, staff management, scientific, leadership skills and adherence to ethical practicesAble to explain highly technical concepts to senior managementStrategic thinking and vision for the next steps within the Biostats team and beyondClear communication to align team members, resources and activitiesHighly organized and detail-oriented with excellent time management skillsHigh level of decorum in handling confidential information
