Gettysburg College seeks an experienced and visionary Director of Athletics and Recreation to lead our comprehensive athletic programs. This key leadership position will be responsible for strategic planning, development, and implementation of programs that foster athletic success, academic excellence, and personal development for our student-athletes. The successful candidate will inspire and motivate student-athletes, coaches, and staff to achieve their highest potential, ensuring that Gettysburg College remains a nationally recognized destination for NCAA Division III student-athletes, while also developing opportunities for all students at the club sport and recreational levels.

Reporting Relationship

This position reports directly to the Vice President for Enrollment & Educational Services.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Planning: Develop and execute a strategic vision for Gettysburg Athletics and Recreation that aligns with the broader goals of the College.

Leadership: Provide dynamic leadership to student-athletes, coaches, and athletic staff, while fostering a culture of excellence, teamwork, and inclusivity. Provide administrative expertise that allows a complex organization to thrive .

Fundraising: Lead initiatives to secure resources that support athletic programs, facilities, and student-athlete development.

Student-Athlete Recruitment and Experience: Support and strengthen student-athlete recruitment and departmental communication initiatives.

Academic & Athletic Success: Support student-athlete academic achievement, while promoting athletic excellence in conference championships and national competitions.

Facility Enhancement: Oversee development and renovation of athletic and recreation facilities.

Student-Athlete Development: Strengthen comprehensive programs for student-athlete physical and mental health, performance, and well-being.

Student Recreation: Establish and strengthen recreational opportunities for all students through intramural, outdoor, and club sport programming.

Community Engagement: Build strong relationships with alumni, donors, and the broader community.

Master’s degree in sports management, education, business administration, or related field preferred Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in athletics administration or head coaching at the collegiate level Preference for NCAA Division III experience Proven track record of successful leadership Knowledge of private higher education, athletic and recreation administration, fundraising practices, and principles of student-athlete health and wellbeing Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to engage diverse stakeholders Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities Experience in leading successful fundraising campaigns and securing major gifts
