Description We are looking for a dedicated and strategic Director of Accounting to oversee the financial operations and business administration of our organization in Worcester, Massachusetts. This role is pivotal in ensuring the institution's long-term financial sustainability while managing key areas such as budgeting, accounting, human resources oversight, and facilities management. Responsibilities: • Lead the development and execution of strategic financial plans to support the long-term sustainability of the institution. • Collaborate with senior leadership and the Board of Trustees to create annual operating and capital budgets, providing detailed financial analyses and projections. • Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and tuition collection. • Prepare accurate monthly financial statements and ensure compliance with reporting standards and requirements. • Manage the annual audit process by coordinating with external auditors and the Finance Committee. • Support grant funding initiatives by overseeing financial reporting, tracking expenditures, and ensuring compliance with donor restrictions. • Supervise vendor contracts, negotiating favorable terms and maintaining proper documentation for agreements. • Oversee technology and facilities management, contributing to strategic planning for infrastructure improvements. • Work closely with the human resources consulting firm to manage personnel policies and related administrative needs. • Act as a liaison to the Board’s Finance, Human Resources, and Campus Committees, providing timely updates and recommendations. Requirements • Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or financial management, preferably in an educational or nonprofit setting. • Proficiency in accounting software systems, including QuickBooks, with a strong understanding of US GAAP. • Expertise in financial analysis, forecasting, and budgeting processes. • Demonstrated ability to manage month-end close processes and prepare detailed monthly financial statements. • Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and auditing practices. • Strong skills in managing vendor contracts and ensuring compliance with financial and insurance requirements. • Excellent communication and leadership abilities, with a proven track record of effective team management. • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; advanced degree or CPA certification preferred.
