Main responsibilities:
Lead the strategic development, implementation, and continuous improvement of food safety and sanitation programs to ensure regulatory compliance, protect public health, and support operational excellence across all retail locations.
Develop, maintain, and continuously improve comprehensive food safety and sanitation programs—including policies, standards, and SOPs—to ensure alignment with corporate goals and regulatory requirements. Design and implement innovative training programs that empower retail teams to uphold world-class food safety and sanitation practices. Lead cross-functional initiatives that enhance food safety outcomes, leveraging data analytics, stakeholder feedback, and industry best practices. Monitor evolving regulatory standards and government actions; interpret implications and proactively update internal policies and procedures to ensure compliance. Oversee food safety improvement projects from concept to execution, including timeline management, pilot planning, launch readiness, and national rollouts. Present project plans and updates to senior leadership. Manage third-party vendor performance (e.g., sanitation chemicals, audits, pest control, recalls), including scorecards, performance improvement plans, and program standardization. Partner with Sourcing on bidding, contracts, and renewals. Translate feedback from Regional Directors and Division Food Safety leaders into actionable program and vendor enhancements. Conduct quarterly business reviews focused on data analysis, performance trends, strategic priorities, and resource allocation. Develop and track KPIs in collaboration with retail food safety teams. Mentor and develop food safety team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning, accountability, and professional growth. Facilitate cross-departmental alignment and collaboration across Operations, Legal, Sourcing, and other key stakeholders. Leverage digital platforms and analytics tools to monitor food safety performance, identify trends, and drive proactive interventions. Implement automation solutions to streamline audits, compliance tracking, and reporting processes. Collaborate with IT and vendor partners to evaluate and deploy emerging technologies that enhance food safety visibility and operational efficiency. Utilize dashboards and visualization tools to communicate key metrics and insights to stakeholders at all levels.We are looking for candidates who possess the following:
Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Microbiology, Food Science/Technology, or equivalent required. Master’s degree preferred. 10+ years of experience in food handling, sanitation or public health preferred. Prior regulatory agency experience desired. Must obtain all professional licensure required by local law or regulation. Familiarity with retail grocery operations or auditing in a public health capacity preferred.Skills and Experiences:
Food safety management experience. Food safety certification required. Knowledge and expertise in handling recalls, withdrawals and/or crisis situations. Working knowledge of FDA Food Code is required. Experience with regulations and requirements: consumer safety testing, FDA, USDA, and state and local jurisdictions. Experience developing and implementing HACCP programs. HACCP certification a plus. Expertise in sanitation, pest control, and code dating. Knowledge and experience working with restaurants, retailers, distribution centers and suppliers to resolve food safety issues. Excellent project management, process improvement, organization, planning, and interpersonal skills. Ability to motivate, lead, and influence various levels of the organization. High attention to detail and superior organizational skills. Strong analytical and technical writing skills. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and presentation skills. Possess ability to communicate concepts, systems, procedures, etc. in a training environment. Must be proficient in MS Office suite of programs.We also provide a variety of benefits including:
