Director Design Strategy & Innovation

Purpose: 

The Director of Design Strategy & Innovation is responsible for shaping the long-term vision and evolution of the company’s design strategy, ensuring innovation, consistency, and excellence across all customer-facing design experiences. This role blends strategic foresight with operational execution, fostering cross-functional collaboration to deliver cutting-edge solutions that enhance brand differentiation, customer engagement, and business growth.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or related field; MBA preferred.

10+ years of experience in management consulting, corporate strategy, customer experience or equivalent or innovation leadership roles within retail, consumer goods, or related industries.

Proven track record leading large-scale, cross-functional initiatives in a complex organization (retail, consumer goods, or services strongly preferred).

Strong understanding of customer experience, digital platforms, and emerging design technologies.

Exceptional leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Experience managing creative or strategy-focused teams in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.

Essential Job Functions:

Define and drive the company’s design strategy in alignment with corporate goals and customer insights.

Identify emerging trends, technologies, and practices in design and innovation to position the company as an industry leader.

Champion innovation in digital experiences and in-store design services.

Lead the development and implementation of new concepts, tools, and platforms that elevate the customer journey.

Foster a culture of experimentation, creativity, and continuous improvement.

Partner with cross-functional teams (Marketing, Merchandising, Technology, Sales, and Operations) to test and scale innovative solutions.

Evolve customer-facing design services and solutions, ensuring a seamless, premium, and differentiated experience.

Translate customer needs, market data, and business insights into design strategies and offerings that drive loyalty and revenue.

Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing team of strategists, innovators, and program managers.

Empower the team with clear goals, accountability, and opportunities for professional growth.

Establish KPIs and metrics to measure the success and ROI of design strategies and innovation initiatives.

Oversee budgets, timelines, and resources to ensure efficient delivery of strategic projects.

Ensure scalability and consistency of design strategy across all markets and channels

PHYSICAL/SENSORY    REQUIREMENTS

Sedentary Work – Ability to exert 10 - 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
