Director of Logistics and Operations
Location: Bogota - Colombia (hybrid)
About the Position
The Director of Logistics and Operations is responsible for strategically leading operations and supply chain processes, ensuring efficiency, continuity, and profitability across the end to end value chain. This role oversees logistics planning, inventory management, procurement, warehousing, distribution, and the full import and export cycle. The position holds direct accountability for customs compliance, international trade regulations, and cost optimization, while driving continuous improvement initiatives and ensuring high service levels for both internal and external customers.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and optimize logistics and operational systems, processes, and technologies to maximize efficiency and profitability.
Design and implement strategic planning across procurement, logistics, and operations to ensure business continuity and customer satisfaction.
Define and monitor key performance indicators such as OTD, lead time, logistics costs, shipments, and inventory levels, implementing continuous improvement initiatives when required.
Ensure sales shipment targets are achieved through effective logistics execution and project follow up.
Develop inventory planning strategies based on historical sales data and demand forecasts to guarantee product availability aligned with defined OTD goals.
Oversee the end to end import process, ensuring compliance with customs regulations, correct tariff classification, accurate documentation, and timely nationalization of goods.
Ensure compliance with local and international trade and customs regulations, managing audits, authority requirements, and mitigating legal and financial risks.
Select, negotiate, and evaluate logistics providers, customs brokers, and domestic and international carriers to secure competitive costs and service excellence.
Provide management reports and operational insights to support executive decision making and cross functional efficiency.
Drive the implementation of VES tools and methodologies, including VES Fundamentals, Growth, and Lean, within operational processes.
Lead, develop, and empower team members, fostering growth and readiness for increased responsibilities.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, Logistics, International Trade, or related fields.
Postgraduate degree or specialization in Logistics, Supply Chain, Operations, or International Trade.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in logistics and operations.
At least 3 years of experience leading teams.
Proven experience in import operations and customs management, including direct interaction with customs brokers and regulatory authorities.
Experience in multinational environments or international supply chains is desirable.
Strong technical knowledge of customs legislation, international trade regulations, import processes, customs valuation, incoterms, international transportation, freight management, ERP systems such as SAP, logistics KPIs, and S&OP processes.
Intermediate to advanced English proficiency, B2 level or higher.
