American Express National Bank is American Express’ U.S. banking operation, representing more than 60% of the company’s revenues through consistent payments, financing, and savings products. Led by the Chief Operating Officer, AENB HQ drives the administration of programs and services provided by AENB, in partnership with Bank affiliates and executive officers. In addition, the team plays an enterprise role in driving greater consistency, effectiveness and efficiency across the first line via the AENB COO Office’s Strategic Planning, Control Management, Program Management and Governance functions. 

The Corporate Functions Governance & Control team within AENB HQ governs first line of defense risk management centrally for the corporate functions: AENB HQ, Corporate Affairs & Communications, Colleague Experience Group, Enterprise Strategy, Enterprise Shared Services, General Counsel’s Office, and Global Risk & Compliance.

The Corporate Functions Governance & Control team is looking for a Director, Change Management and Transformation Initiatives to lead a diverse team of high-performing professionals focused on ensuring enterprise risk management expectations are embedded across seven Corporate Functions business units. It will involve extensive collaboration with multiple partners across numerous business units, functional areas, and geographies. 

The Director will:

Act as the primary point of contact for coordinating change initiatives and activities across the Corporate Functions, ensuring alignment with enterprise policies and governance requirements. Oversee enterprise-wide initiative to strengthen our risk management capabilities and controls for the Corporate Functions, ensuring timely updates, artifact closure, and coordination with PMOs on milestone delivery. Manage changes related to policies, risk committees, and initiatives, including project planning, communications, and training. Execute ad hoc governance activities as needed, such as coordinating attestations for models and business impact analyses. Provide advisory support on risk memos to ensure risks are clearly assessed and communicated. Advise on end-to-end new product approval processes, including: performing process scoping, coordinating cross–risk stripe assessments and managing governance processes, including committee approvals Collaborate with stakeholders across the Corporate Functions to ensure governance processes are implemented effectively, risks are appropriately assessed, and operational standards are consistently met.

Required Qualifications:

6+ Years experience in large-scale project and program management within financial services Experience navigating enterprise or operational risk management lifecycle activities Excellent communication, and interpersonal skills, with an ability to interact and obtain buy-in from senior BU/tech counterparts Expertise in process management/governance, with a track record of establishing and overseeing robust decision-making processes that align with policies, regulatory frameworks, and/or operational standards Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to analyze data, identify trends, and evaluate risk scenarios effectively Demonstrated history and ability to manage teams, spread over geographies and with varying backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Business, Risk Mgmt., or related field; advanced degrees (e.g., MBA, MSc) or certifications are advantageous Experience in at least one of the following: Translating enterprise or operational risk strategy and appetite into execution guidelines Tracking and identifying issues with Key Risk Indicator (KRI) limits and risk appetite to ensure risks are managed within agreed thresholds Implementing risk governance frameworks Creating, communicating and ensuring understanding and adherence to operational risk procedures and standards

Salary Range: $130,000.00 to $225,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
