Director - Business Development, EPD, Emerging Markets
To establish EPD as a key player in the China pharmaceutical market. Proactively research, identify and evaluate potential company, product and technology targets that are consistent with Abbott’s strategies and drive sustainable growth for the Company. • Lead the assessment and due diligence activities including: 1) managing the interactions with external parties, 2) overseeing the evaluation process and timeline and 3) developing timely recommendations and proposals for senior management consideration based on thorough and complete technical and commercial assessments. • Develop effective deal structures, risk mitigation and negotiating strategies to ensure alignment with Company objectives. Leading, negotiating and closing of a variety of transactions from straight forward intellectual property rights agreements to complex acquisitions. • Effectively manage external stakeholders (e.g. CEOs) and internal stakeholders (e.g., Senior Management and C-suite), including preparing opportunity assessments for executive-level audiences. • Effectively lead support teams (e.g. – marketing, R&D, clinical, regulatory, operations) through due diligence process on opportunities. • Deliver oral and written presentations to senior management to seek approval for new opportunities. • Lead assessments of key markets, companies, and technologies. Individual will be regarded as a subject matter expert for the various business segments supported. **Minimum Education** • Graduate degree in Science, Economics, Engineering, or Business/MBA Minimum Experience/Training Required • Bachelor’s Degree Required. Prefer Finance / Accounting or Technical (e.g. Pharmaceutical) with a Master of Business Administration. • 5 + years of M&A experience including time spent working on acquisitions, managing the assessment of opportunities, negotiating and closing deals successfully. 10+ years in Pharma. + Strong understanding of the product development, regulatory, and commercialization process for evaluation of target companies and products. + Leadership skills to drive projects to deliver timely results and follow through on commitments. + Strong communication skills to effectively communicate business strategies and capabilities internally and externally, present individual and team recommendations clearly and concisely, and promote cross-functional communication + Ability to integrate complex multifunctional efforts across multiple functions and business areas. + Ability to develop strong working relationships and develop people. • Strong networking skills to reach out to a broad range of industry decision makers to keep abreast of emerging opportunities. \ + Demonstrated negotiation and influencing skills in a deal setting to creatively solve problems with partner companies and close deals. + Strong financial acumen and analytical skills to understand financial evaluations. + **Skills and Competencies Required:** + Candidate must have Chinese language fluency especially in mainland Mandarin + Business Development experience in Pharma companies is a must with strong knowledge about Pharma landscape in ChinaMust have experience of dealing with investment bankers and CXO level. + Majority of the role will focus on China market + Experience in Business Roles (Sales, Marketing and/or Commercial Operations) + Strong management, project management, and business development skills + Excellent presentation and communication skills + Highly developed negotiations skills. + Strong strategic thinking skills + Ability to manage multiple projects as competing priorities + Ability to manage multiple stakeholders to get things done + Excellent team leadership, interpersonal and influencing skills + Keen knowledge of the organization and key markets in Asia + Ability to act decisively to overcome difficulties as well as sophisticated problem-solving skills to synthesize data + Strong stakeholder management skills – internal and external (direct and indirect) + Ability to handle pressure in a dynamic environment + Ability to handle complex and diverse business situations.
