Why this role is important?
Position Summary:
We are seeking a strategic and technically adept leader to oversee capacity planning and process improvement initiatives for the national network of Loblaw and Shoppers Drug Mart pharmacies. As Director, Workflow Optimization & Capacity Planning, you will shape how pharmacy teams work, ensuring workflows that are efficient, scalable, and aligned with patient care and experience objectives.
This role sits at the intersection of operational strategy, workflow design, and analytical modeling. You will act as the product owner and architect of our scheduling and labour planning models, while also driving key cross-functional initiatives that transform how pharmacy care is delivered at scale.
This is a high-impact position with direct influence across multiple areas of the organization, including Pharmacy, Operations, Finance, Human Resources, and Technology. We are looking for a candidate who combines strong business acumen with hands-on technical expertise, and who is comfortable leading both strategic planning and practical implementation.
Key Responsibilities:
· Lead the design and ongoing development of capacity planning models, scheduling algorithms, and scenario analysis frameworks to support Pharmacy Operations
· Serve as business product owner for our planning and scheduling tools, ensuring they are accurate, scalable, and aligned with operational realities
· Plan and conduct operational time studies and workflow assessments to validate assumptions and identify opportunities for process improvement
· Translate strategic goals and stakeholder requirements into executable initiatives that enhance workflow efficiency, patient care, and experience
· Enable the productive labour component of the enterprise planning and budgeting process
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop decision-support tools that guide store-level planning and performance
· Develop and oversee cross-functional business cases for labour and workflow transformation initiatives
· Define and monitor key performance indicators to evaluate efficiency gains and overall operational effectiveness
· Champion a culture of systems thinking, operational excellence, and data-driven decision making
Qualifications & Experience:
· A degree in Engineering, Operations Research, Computer Science, or another quantitative discipline
· 10+ years of experience, ideally including roles in consulting or operational transformation
· 5+ years in leadership roles, with experience driving high-impact, cross-functional initiatives
· Strong business acumen and comfort working with financial models
· Technical depth: experience designing models or decision tools, plus proficiency in SQL and/or analytical coding (Python, R, etc.)
· Proven ability to move from idea to execution on operational initiatives to make measurable process improvement
· Nice to have experience developing and implementing optimization or simulation models, either hands-on or in collaboration with technical teams
