Wealth and Advice Solutions Technology (WAS Tech) is an organization within Schwab Technology Services dedicated to supporting the technology needs of the Wealth and Advice Solutions (WAS) business. Our mission is to empower high-net-worth (HNW) and ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) clients by delivering differentiated offerings and tailored financial advice that meet their unique needs.

This role is part of a highly talented and experienced architecture team responsible for setting the vision, strategy, and roadmap for the Schwab Wealth and Advice Solutions platform. The team works in close partnership with Enterprise Architecture, ensuring architectural decisions support long-term business goals, future scalability and high resiliency. The team’s collaborative approach with product leaders fosters an environment where cutting-edge technology solutions are appreciated as a critical component of achieving business objectives which drive ongoing market leadership.

 

In this position, you will collaborate closely with a talented, motivated team of technologists who are passionate about making technology a strategic differentiator for Schwab’s WAS business and its clients. Your leadership and technical acumen will be essential in shaping a cohesive architecture strategy that aligns with business objectives and industry best practices.

This role requires a strong background in leading architecture strategy as well as hands-on experience throughout the implementation lifecycle. You should be comfortable influencing technology direction, providing expert guidance, and ensuring the successful delivery of complex, integrated solutions in a fast-paced, agile environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Facilitate the seamless delivery of digital advice and financial planning solutions integrated with enterprise shared services and 3rd party capabilitiesAddress complex technical challenges and architect robust solutions that enable wealth advisors to efficiently interact with a diverse ecosystem of partnersHelp define strategy, architecture, and application design which ensure security, scalability, availabilityCollaborate with peer architects, Enterprise Architects, and cross-functional teams to develop cohesive architecture blueprintsLead architecture strategy sessions and engage hands-on throughout the software delivery lifecycle to resolve challengesRemain informed on industry trends in financial technology and apply this knowledge to drive innovation within the organization

What you have

Required Qualifications:

Demonstrated hands-on expertise designing and implementing solutions in the investment/wealth services industryProven experience architecting and integrating financial services applications to run at scale in cloud/on-prem ecosystemsStrong leadership record in architecture strategy and direct involvement in all stages of solution delivery
Experience working collaboratively with peer architects, Enterprise Architecture, and cross-enterprise technical teams10+ years hands-on software engineering experience (preferably Java)5+ years experience designing, developing, and integrating solutions in the investment services industryExcellent communication skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive consensus across diverse teamsExcellent written documentation skills which help team members visualize application design and systems integration patternsProven ability to support production operations and provide Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) expertise to ensure system reliability and performanceExperience developing applications in Cloud environments, leveraging its suite of services for scalable and efficient solutions (GCP preferred)

Preferred Qualifications:

Utilizes intelligence of the investment services industry, market, and competition to influence business strategyTransforms data into actionable insights and mentors others in diagnostic techniquesPromotes creativity, experimentation, and strategic thinking to differentiate Schwab from its competitors5+ years architecting scalable, highly available Web, UI/UX, and microservices solutionsExperience architecting and building cloud-based or cloud-ready applications strongly preferredExperience with CI/CD (GitHub suite preferred)Experience with Agile development methodologyKnowledge of SQL (Oracle, Cloud SQL PostgreSQL) databases

In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
