What is the opportunity?

As a Director, REM Finance, you are a trusted strategic advisor working alongside Directors in the Real Estate Markets (“REM”) group to deliver an exceptional client credit experience.  Reporting to the VP, Real Estate Credit, you will underwrite new loan requests, annual reviews and loan amendments, working in collaboration with internal and external partners with a One RBC mindset.  The individual will be a credit expert as well as a coach and mentor to their Associate Director peers.  The Director, REM Finance will partner with Directors, REM to provide meaningful client contact, grow in-market presence and stay at the forefront of industry and competitor trends.

What will you do?

Collaborate with Directors in REM to lead the credit discovery process with clients to deliver best-in-class credit structuring expertise and advice;

Take ownership of structuring competitively tailored credit solutions, managing transactions from origination to risk approval to the funding stage;

Deliver exceptional client experience by responding quickly to credit requests, minimizing turnaround times and delivering sound credit structuring advice and client centric solutions that support business growth;

Provide Directors with specific deal support as it relates to bilateral and syndicate loans including proforma and budget analysis, cash flow analysis, financial statements review, market analysis and credit writing;

Proactive management of credit portfolio quality. This includes establishing a routine with Directors to review their pipelines, collecting financial reporting, managing the compliance and covenant testing process, actioning timely credit renewals;

Enhance team collaboration and enterprise connection by assisting the VPs of Real Estate Credit to coach and mentor the Associate Director team.  The successful candidate will model RBC’s values and leadership principles while deepening the team’s credit acumen and expertise;

Support clients’ understanding of their climate risks, delivering value added advice and connecting with RBC’s Sustainable Finance partners as appropriate;

Daily administration of the Group’s lending portfolio; initiate and actively participate in team initiatives such as presenting on industry trends, executing portfolio strategy requests, providing portfolio reporting;

Drive team priorities as it relates to strategic limit review updates, connecting with clients and partners to build trust and strengthen our presence within the real estate network.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial real estate, commercial banking, and/or similar credit analysis and underwriting experience in commercial finance;

Strong knowledge of real estate syndications, credit structuring and pricing practices;

Ability to perform well under pressure, meet time sensitive deadlines and prioritize multiple responsibilities to meet client needs;

Undergraduate degree in Business, Economics, Accounting, or Finance with strong quantitative, financial modeling, and analytical skills, as well as an ability to analyze financial statements;

Demonstrated ability to work and collaborate effectively;

Strong interpersonal, analytical, technical and computer skills (especially Microsoft Excel);

Detail oriented, able to synthesize data and communicate in a succinct and clear manner;

Professional and effective oral and written communication skills with high level of attention to detail in both written work and financial analysis;

Passionate about peer coaching and mentorship with relevant experience in this area;

Self-motivated, proactive, critical thinker with creative problem solving abilities;

Able to adapt quickly, always learning, and thriving in the face of ambiguity.

Nice-to-have

Experience working with large, complex real estate credit and syndicate transactions;

Experience financing a wide range of real estate asset classes including rental apartments, low-rise condos, single-family or multi-family homes, high-rise condominiums, commercial properties, hotels, senior’s housing and/or master planned communities;

Client facing experience;

An established /pre-existing real estate client network with ability to impact and influence key partners, both internally and externally;

MBA, CPA or CFA.
