Job Overview:

The Director is responsible for the management and supervision of hospital measures of Regulatory Compliance, Publicly Reported Metrics, Quality and Process Improvement and Patient Safety.  Ensures completion of required regulatory quality reporting and provides hospital leadership an analysis of opportunities to improve those metrics, including Patient Safety Indicators (PSI’s) and Hospital Acquired Conditions (HAC’s).  Coordinates oversight of medical staff peer review/improvement. Provides oversight of nursing quality assessment/improvement programs. Works collaboratively with management team members to support their analysis and improvement strategies. Ensures PIC reports are meaningful, include appropriate data analysis and address opportunities for improvement.

Qualifications:

Required:

Bachelor's Degree3 years experience in an acute care settingDemonstrates team building and collaborative practice behaviorsDemonstrates understanding of performance improvement and quality outcomes management

Preferred:

Master's degree Certification as Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) and Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) Quality Improvement experience

Essential Functions:

Leads Performance Improvement

Utilizes principles of CQI in all work situationsProvides education to clinical and ancillary staff within the organization to help achieve department and hospital goalsSeeks feedback and recommendations from others to improve the quality, processes and servicesParticipates in multidisciplinary task forces to plan, implement, and evaluate process changes designed to improve compliance with publicly reported metricsCoordinates Patient Safety ActivitiesOversees Quality coordinators in developing agendas and documents for medical staff peer review committeesPrepares agendas and documents for assigned medical staff peer review committeesParticipates in and oversees fact finding, high-risk occurrence, or sentinel event meetingsProvides oversight of daily reviews of patient safety events and coordination of follow upPrepares or oversees root cause analysis documents for submission to regulatory agenciesImplementation of Organizational Development initiatives as part of the High Reliability journeyProvides Hospital LeadershipParticipates in organizational meetings; functions as a key Quality member and communicates as appropriate within the Quality departmentPlans, implements, and evaluates performance improvement activities for a variety of clinical, ancillary, and administrative departmentsParticipates in or leads performance improvement teams as requestedParticipates in employee orientation programDevelops strong relationships with managers, department heads, and administrationProvides input in policies and procedures to support operational outcomes and organizational goalsRepresent the hospital in RWJBH Quality system meetingsManages Publicly Reported DataAnalyzes CMS National Quality Measure reports to identify trends and issuesReviews Quality Measure reports and communicates information to stakeholders

Leads Regulatory Compliance Efforts

Identifies changes in regulatory requirements; communicates changes to appropriate customers in a timely mannerPrepares for regulatory surveys in collaboration with Quality staff and other departmentsLeads hospital-wide regulatory surveys including Joint Commission and NJ Department of Health and participates in other surveys as needed
