The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview:

Administers and directs programs to maintain buildings, grounds, and equipment and to procure or generate utilities and their distribution systems. Also coordinates construction and renovation programs. Works under the direction of Vice President-Plant Operations. The incumbent is guided by thorough knowledge of engineering and construction principles, practices, and procedures, applicable laws and government regulations, principles of management and supervision and procedures and policies of departments and facilities.

Qualifications:

A bachelor s degree in engineering or related field is requiredExperience of minimum five to ten years' responsibility at a director level or minimum ten to 15 years engineering and construction experience in a healthcare institution, with functioning in a mid-management position preferredCandidates should demonstrate related continuous education coursesThe ability to read, comprehend, and transmit complicated detailed instructions in writing and orally

Certifications and Licenses Required:

Certified Health Facility Manager CHFM as issued by the American Hospital Association is requiredProfessional Engineer PE or Registered Architect RA or AIA, and / or certification from the American College of Healthcare Architects ACHA is preferred

Essential Functions:

Computerized programs in scheduled maintenance, construction, financial management and energy control and modification.Plans, organizes, and controls functions and activities of plant operations and building renovations.Reviews and evaluates existing programs, services, policies and procedures.Develops, recommends to Vice President-Plant Operations, and implements or guides implementation of new and/or modified programs, services, policies and/or procedures.Meets with Vice President-Plant Operations, medical, administrative, and supervisory staff, as well as community groups, agencies, contractors, architects, and engineers to plan, organize, coordinate, and/or communicate programs, services, and policies and/or procedures.Monitors flow and quality of work to assure timely completion of workload and adherence to facility s standards and regulations.Ensures adequate inventories of supplies and approved requisitions for equipment, supplies, etc, as authorizedPrepares and controls departmental budgets, including utilities energy savings program in conjunction with RWJBH corporate energy procurement activityPrepares and maintains a variety of departmental records and reportsEnsures compliance with The Joint Commission, New Jersey State Health Department, EPA, DEP, ADA, UST, and any other relevant regulatory agencyServes as or establishes designee for Hospital Safety Officer, maintaining and addresses Life Safety issues and complianceServes in the roles on the following committees:Co-Chair Environment of Care/Safety Committee, Chair Water Management Committee, Chair Ventilation Management Committee, Active member of Infection Prevention, Emergency Management Committees, Performs a variety of supervisory functions.Assigns work to staff, monitors work performance and prepares and/or reviews performance evaluations for assigned personnel, schedules and approves vacations and holidays, orients new employees and provides on-the-job training to assigned personnel, resolves complaints and disciplines employees, as required. Interviews applicants and recommends qualified individuals for hire.Informs employees of salient features of facility s personnel and employee relations programs and answers questions regarding same or refers them to appropriate sources for additional informationIn partnership with RWJBH Corporate capital project management, participates in planning, coordination, and monitoring of construction and development of physical facilities.Reviews, evaluates and recommends approval of plans for constructionAdvises on structural changes and additions and/or modifications on buildingsInterviews independent contractors to receive and analyze bids, including blueprint analysis of proposed changesSubmits bids and recommendations to administration for considerationServes as liaison with contractors, architects, engineers and material and equipment suppliersNegotiates with outside vendors for preferred agreementsResponsible for grounds care and snow removalResponsible for in-house fire response teamPerforms other services and duties, as delegated, and serves on a variety of facility committees as required by administration
