The Director, Packaging Development ensures Benefit Cosmetics’ new product innovation and expertly crafted packaging to deliver the optimal product performance & influence key decisions through packaging insights and expertise. This role will lead a team and guide key projects within the packaging design & development team, overseeing the full process from concept to execution of primary and secondary packaging.  This is a highly cross-functional role that must be able to manage a wide audience of stakeholders from junior employees to senior level executives.  

The ideal candidate for this role has expert project management abilities, a strong background in packaging engineering, a dynamic presence, and is a skilled influencer, leader, and communicator.

 

 

What You’ll Do:

Oversee and lead all activities relating to the Packaging Development Department and Package Validation. Champion best practices related to sustainability in packaging development. Co-create with and support the Director, Performance Innovation and Design by developing “Uniquely Benefit” packaging solutions. Lead strategic alignment with the Director of Technical Packaging as it relates to uniform specifications, testing requirements, data management, and overall packaging development milestones and timelines. Partner with cross-functional leads (e.g., Package Design, R&D, Product Marketing and Operations) to ensure packaging solutions meet business objectives. Lead, cultivate, and manage supplier relations at a senior level Oversee and be responsible for the industrial design, fabrication, development, and validation of all primary and secondary cosmetic packaging. Command and lead high level cross-functional development meetings to ensure that projects milestones and tasks stay on track Prepare, submit, and manage all Package Development financial accounts as approved by the Finance Department. Ensure the management and development of quality packaging in a cost-effective manner from concept to production while meeting product development calendar/deadlines. Co-source packaging with cross functional teams like purchasing and supply chain. Ensure the validation of first production of primary and secondary packaging as required. May be called upon to develop, implement and maintain methods and/or processes in the fabrication of parts, components and final assemblies Performance Measurement: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of creative initiatives. Analyze results and adjust as needed to optimize performance.

People Management:

Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of professionals at varying stages in their career; foster a collaborative and innovative work environment. Have overall accountability for hiring performance management, development, and engagement of direct and indirect reports. Act as a people developer, leading a feedback and performance culture, modeling two-way feedback, accountability, and recognition. Provide ongoing transparent discussion regarding development, Rise objective review, and career aspirations. Onboarding: Proactively guide team through induction, on-the-job training, and familiarization with the LVMH ecosystem, providing all necessary contacts and resources, and encouraging attendance at relevant events. Be a performance enabler, ensuring equitable development of direct and indirect reports. Be a business driver, by hosting regular team meetings to set realistic objectives, reviewing  KPIs, measuring progress, discussing ongoing projects, and aligning team focuses to organizational strategic priorities. Keep direct and indirect reports up to date with important functional, company, and LVMH news.

 

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience, and 8-10 years of progressive experience in packaging design/engineering. Equivalent experience may be accepted. Understand the development of CAD and Solid Works drawings of primary and secondary components as required. Full working knowledge of injection molding equipment and tooling

 

Schedule:

Hybrid - requires onsite presence weekly to a Benefit Office

 

 

The target salary range for this position in California is $145,000 - $185,000 annually. The actual salary offered is based on market location and will depend on a variety of factors, which may include, as applicable, years of relevant experience; certifications or other professional licenses held; other legitimate, non-discriminatory business factors specific to the position; and the geographic location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will perform the job. This position is eligible to earn an annual bonus.
