Director, Organizational Effectiveness & Change Strategy

About the Role

In this role you will serve as a key architect in shaping and accelerating our transformation, ensuring our organization is aligned, adaptive, and equipped for the future in partnership with HR Leadership, HR Business Partners and key strategic partners. You will lead organizational design efforts, enabling complex change at scale, and building future-forward workforce strategies - especially as AI and automation reshape retail work. 

What You’ll Do

Develop a consistent approach to org design (function redesign, span-of-control, structural assessments) and partner with HRBPs on execution

Conduct research and benchmarking to inform organizational design and effectiveness strategies

Partner with leaders to design operating models aligned to Kohl’s strategic pillars, clarifying roles, capabilities, governance, and decision rights

Facilitate discussions to ensure organizational alignment and optimization

Partner with People Analytics to define KPIs, dashboards, and reports to monitor org effectiveness and identify areas for improvement

Build the enterprise change model and methodology- including change roadmaps, impact assessments, stakeholder engagement strategies, common language, communication and leadership activation plans

Lead the people side of critical enterprise transformations (tech, digital, AI, pillar initiatives) with structured change strategies and roadmaps

Build methodologies and partner with Strategy and Internal Comms to deliver consistent messaging, tools, and learning solutions that drive engagement and adoption

Create workforce planning models, close skill gaps (including AI-driven needs), and drive reskilling, upskilling, and talent mobility initiatives

Serve as a trusted advisor to HR and business executives, translating goals into people strategies and leading complex programs with clarity and focus

What Skills You Have

Required

Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Development, HR, Business, or a related field

Prosci or similar Change Management certification

10+ years of experience in organizational effectiveness, change management, HR strategy, or transformation roles

Proven experience leading enterprise change and org design projects within large, matrixed environments

Expertise in operating model transformation, capability building, and change leadership

Executive presence, facilitation expertise, and strong consulting acumen

Preferred

Master’s degree (e.g., MBA, MSOD, IO Psychology)

Experience working in retail, consumer, or technology-driven environments

Familiarity with org network analysis (ONA), strategic workforce planning tools, or AI impact modeling

Six Sigma certification
