Director, Loss Mitigation

The Loss Mitigation Director plays a vital leadership role within the organization, overseeing all activities related to loss mitigation functions. This role demands a deep expertise in loss mitigation processes, guidelines (including FHA, VA, Fannie Mae, and investor-specific requirements), and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of mortgage default, loss mitigation, and short sale procedures, coupled with excellent leadership, communication, and relationship management skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead, manage, and develop the loss mitigation team, including SPOC, underwriting, document preparation, foreclosure, referral, and QC teams, ensuring high performance, quality control, and compliance.
Oversee departmental activities to ensure adherence to investor guidelines, federal and state regulations, and internal policies.
Monitor operational performance, metrics, and timelines to maximize productivity, efficiency, service quality, and regulatory compliance.
Develop and execute strategic plans, including restructuring initiatives, to improve department workflows and team capabilities.
Manage relationships with investor liaison contacts, ensuring ongoing communication and resolution of investor-specific requirements, including mediation processes, call campaigns, and legal situations.
Provide coaching, guidance, and support to direct reports and indirectly supervise 61 team members, focusing on leadership development rather than hands-on management.
Ensure licensing requirements are maintained, and licensing processes are followed.
Prepare and manage the departments budget, including monthly and annual expense planning.
Monitor escalated investor and compliance issues, providing timely, transparent, and risk-aware responses.
Prepare and present weekly/monthly performance reports, analysis, and trend updates to senior management.
Oversee and support internal and external audits, ensuring timely remediation of audit findings.
Develop, review, and update policies and procedures to align with industry changes, regulatory updates, and internal improvements.
Lead cross-functional projects to ensure system updates, process improvements, and policy changes are executed effectively.
Engage in talent management activities, including goal setting, training, coaching, and recognition, fostering a positive and proactive departmental culture.
Maintain comprehensive knowledge of relevant regulations, including FHA, VA, CFPB, and other legal and legal compliance guidelines, staying current on any changes or updates.
Handle complex issues such as negotiations, legal situations, and mediation processes by applying expert knowledge of investor and government guidelines.

The Loss Mitigation Director reports directly to Carla and manages four direct reports with indirect oversight of 61 team members.
