We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Director of Licensing to lead and evolve our licensing strategy across all categories, such as food, beverage, tobacco and other important licensing areas to help the store achieve compliance. This role is responsible for optimizing licensing operations and leading a high-performing team that understands compliance and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate is a visionary leader with a deep understanding of retail and licensing trends, creates process improvements and a strong transformational leader who inspires a high performing team.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational and Strategic Excellence:
+ Oversee and Execute end to end licensing process that aligns with the company’s vision and objectives, ensuring compliance and operational efficiency.
+ Responsible for obtaining new and renewing current operational licenses for all 4 C-store brands including 3 restaurant brands and 5-6 operational systems. (around 150,000) for SEI's 15,000+ network of stores in the US and Canada.
+ Knowledge of over 700+ license types in 50 states and 5 Canadian provinces.
+ Align strategies with 30 outside consulting and Law firms operating in states and cities systemwide.
Process Improvement:
+ Continuously evaluate and refine licensing processes to improve speed-to-market, reduce costs, and enhance partner store and franchise satisfaction.
+ Introduce best practices and benchmarks to elevate licensing standards and outcomes.
+ Implement scalable systems and tools to streamline licensing workflows, approvals, and reporting.
+ Leverage data and analytics to assess performance, forecast trends, and inform decision-making.
Cross Functional and Team Management:
+ Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of 75+ here in the US and India.
+ Foster a culture of accountability, creativity, and collaboration.
+ Set clear goals, provide regular feedback, and support professional development to build a world-class licensing team.
+ Collaborate cross-functionally with merchandising, legal, marketing, and finance teams to ensure alignment and execution.
+ Build and maintain strong relationships with licensors, agents, and brand partners to secure exclusive and innovative deals.
+ Interact and strategize with Senior Leadership for all brands.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree required/Masters Preferred
+ 10+ years in Licensing or Legal background
+ 5+ years managing a team
+ Familiarity/expertise with licensing data base management tools such as LHQ
+ Easy familiarity with other database management tools
+ Familiarity with State, Provincial, and Local licensing laws, regulations etc.
