The Opportunity
Directs the software engineering function in developing, releasing, and maintaining PC application software and embedded firmware for a medical monitoring system according to business needs while meeting stringent FDA regulatory requirements. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Leads and directs the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
Main responsibilities-
Software development within the health care products division
Creating and maintaining an efficient, highly motivated, software development organization
Functional management of the Software development group
Managing/overseeing outsourced development activities
Software and firmware design and development to be used in medical diagnostic devices (both Class II and III)
Responsible for leading-
Design of applications and system level software for systems with embedded microprocessors
Development of software for products under a disciplined product development process that meets FDA requirements
Working in a team environment to reach common objectives with aggressive schedules
Specification, design, testing, and transfer to manufacturing of medical monitoring devices (in accordance with applicable US and International industry regulations and standards)
What You’ll Work On
Software Development Engineering functional manager responsible for staffing and maintaining the groups high level of technical competence
Recruit and manage highly competent software developer and software technical leaders
Establish relationships with outsourced development organizations based on justifiable business needs
Develop and implements binding agreements between such organizations
Devise and maintain the software development organizations overall budget
Specification, design, verification and validation of medical monitoring instruments in accordance with applicable medical regulatory standards
Development of technical project plans and schedules covering software development activities (meeting all design control and product development SOP requirements)
Development of software design requirements and detailed design specifications for implementation of software designs per design development process
Evaluation of selected designs through testing/analysis and full documentation of the results
Work effectively with other departments to define requirements and resolve issues during product development
Delivery of software that meets project technical, cost and timeline requirements
Responsibility for all Software Engineering aspects of a program; Follow approved design control procedures for product development in accordance with FDA guidelines
Direct the software engineering group, providing mentoring, technical guidance and career growth planning
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline
Minimum 15 years of related career experience
Track record in software development
Minimum 10 years of supervisory experience
Technical background and direct experience both developing and supervising software for leading edge healthcare products
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in a technical discipline
Minimum 20 years of experience in software development, preferably in a medical device/diagnostics or other regulated environment. Direct experience with IVD instrumentation is a plus.
Strong experience developing embedded software in Java and C/C++, agile development environment, able to participate in code and design reviews for code written in Java and C/C++.
Direct experience managing outsourced development projects
Experience in development of medical devices
Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills.

The base pay for this position is $169,300.00 – $338,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
