Job Summary
The University of Akron, a NCAA Division 1 (FBS) institution and member of the Mid-American Conference (MAC), is seeking applicants for a Director of Graphic Design and Social Media.
This position supports UA Athletics communications and creative content objectives by managing projects, including graphic design. Develop, oversee and maintain all digital elements of UA Athletics resulting in an integrated strategy to advance the UA Athletics brand in the digital space. Manage the strategy and production of all graphic assets for athletic digital use on all platforms and within key athletic venues. Manage the UA Athletics Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter accounts.
Responsibilities Design/Outsource and produce materials such as concepts/designs, posters, logos, and marketing collateral. Apply designs to web, social media, and other electronic media. Monitor and maintain UA Athletics social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter). Maintain UA brand/logo direction and provide graphics that align with visual standards. Collaborate with communications and creative content staff to ensure quality and brand alignment. Oversee planning related to official social and digital media platforms. Develop graphics, visual text, and imagery for social media content. Assist in developing a strategic vision for video elements (social media, video boards). Lead brand standards for visual content and communicate to maintain integrity. Advise coaches, staff, and administrators on social media practices and brand standards. Track success of initiatives through data and provide quarterly reports. Promote UA Athletics via social media opportunities and monitor emerging trends. Respond strategically to questions/comments and follow university procedures during crises. Assist in managing and training student interns to promote departmental messaging.
Requirements Bachelor's degree required. Minimum of 2 years of experience designing/producing materials (posters, logos, collateral). Experience applying designs to web, social media, and other digital platforms. Experience monitoring and maintaining Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter accounts.
Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of design management, photography, illustration, color theory, and printing procedures. Familiarity with web technologies and online dissemination of information. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite software. Skills in written and verbal communication, creative direction, and project organization. Ability to train, lead, and collaborate with team members. Experience managing vendors (printers, photographers, etc.).
