Reporting to the Managing Director, GAM Innovation, this strategic and results-driven role is dedicated to advancing GAM’s Data and AI Innovation initiatives. This role is responsible for leading the development and execution of internal operational innovations, with a particular emphasis on data transformation, data governance, AI enablement, tokenization strategy, and other high-impact strategic initiatives. This position will serve as the primary business lead for GAM’s data and tools innovation, working in close partnership with technology and operations teams to identify opportunities for process improvement, efficiency gains, and the adoption of cutting-edge technologies. The role requires strong leadership and project management skills to oversee multiple concurrent initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and the successful delivery of measurable outcomes.

How you’ll succeed

 

Data Transformation: Act as the business lead partnering with technology to drive data transformation initiatives. Engage with GAM teams to define opportunities to enhance data and analytics capabilities and implement solutions to reduce EUCs. Maintain oversight of the centralized data node, ensuring data quality, accessibility, and integrity to enable new business applications and support operational excellence. Data ecosystem development: Oversee the design, testing, and ongoing maintenance of GAM's data infrastructure, including data ingestion pipelines and ETL processes that serve front, middle, and back-office operation requirements. Proactively identify and implement enhancements such as automated ingestion, reconciliation, and validation processes to increase overall efficiency within the data ecosystem. Data quality and accuracy: Collaborate with upstream data providers, business stakeholders, and technology to ensure that all inputs to GAM’s data infrastructure are accurate and comprehensive for investment research, portfolio management, and record-keeping activities. Data vendor management: Consistently pursue opportunities to strengthen data vendor relationships and optimize market data and investment data solution management in alignment with business requirements, maintaining a cost-effective approach through strategic partnership with data vendors.

Data Governance: Collaborate with technology, risk, and compliance teams to ensure robust data governance, privacy, and security standards are embedded in all internal operations. Align and uphold data governance standards in partnership with CIBC Enterprise Data Governance team, ensuring GAM’s policies meet CIBC enterprise requirements. Document and maintain records on data ecosystem policies, data element and asset inventories, architecture guidebook, and code to support transparency and operational efficiency. Continuously improve data governance processes by benchmarking against industry leaders and implementing best practices throughout GAM’s operations via reducing manual processes.

AI Acceleration: Champion the adoption of AI technologies within GAM, increasing AI fluency and utilization rates across GAM team members. Facilitate the development and implementation of practical AI use cases across GAM teams, leveraging both CAI, in-house, and external vendors as relevant. Serve as a key point of contact for GAM team members, GAM Technology and Enterprise AI teams related to AI implementation within GAM. 

Innovation Pipeline and Execution: Work with GAM stakeholders to define internal digital and technology innovation opportunities, ensuring alignment with strategic business priorities. Establish and manage a pipeline for piloting and scaling innovation, including proof-of-concept projects and technology evaluations. Foster a culture of experimentation and continuous improvement within internal teams. 

Strategic R&D: Lead the exploration of strategic opportunities for GAM via emerging technologies, such as tokenization and digital asset strategies. Monitor industry trends related to data, AI, and digital assets, assessing their impact on GAM manufacturing & distribution strategy. Lead special projects to assess operational readiness and define business and technical requirements to pursue specific opportunities.  

 

 

Who you are

 

You have a bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Computer Science, or a related field; advanced degree preferred. 

You can demonstrate your experience. 10+ years of experience in asset management, financial services, or a related industry, with a focus on operational innovation, data management, or technology transformation.  Demonstrated experience leading complex projects and delivering measurable results in a matrixed environment. Deep understanding of data governance, data transformation, and emerging technologies (AI, tokenization, etc.).
