Main responsibilities:
Albertsons Companies, Inc. is seeking an experienced director of federal government affairs in Washington, D.C. to serve as a federal lobbyist and strategist. This high-impact role will help drive Albertsons’ federal, political, and public policy strategy, working directly with Congress and executive branch officials to advance Albertsons’ business and protect company interests in the ever-evolving legislative and regulatory landscape.
Reporting to the Vice President, Government Affairs, the successful candidate will be instrumental in helping shape Albertsons’ federal advocacy efforts and policy to ensure strategic alignment with business objectives and ensure strong sustainable relationships with lawmakers.
Additionally, the successful candidate will coordinate closely with the Director of State Government Affairs and internal teams to ensure alignment with broader business objectives and support as needed. This role also involves collaborating with business stakeholders and subject matter experts to evaluate proposed public policies, assess their potential financial and regulatory impacts, and contribute to the development of companywide policy positions.
Federal Advocacy and Political Strategy
Build and maintain bipartisan relationships with policymakers, congressional and executive branch officials, and key D.C. stakeholders. Develop and draft company positions on federal issues and communicate them through correspondence and presentations, including as a registered lobbyist. Monitor, analyze, and report on legislative and regulatory activities that could impact the company’s operations, products, and services. Provide strategic counsel to Vice President, Government Affairs on potential regulatory and legislative risks and opportunities. Contribute to the development and execution of comprehensive political strategies. Support political action committee (PAC) communications and activities.Coalition Building and Trade Association Leadership
Help lead engagement with relevant trade associations championing Albertsons’ position and ensuring the company’s voice is heard on key industry issues. Monitor and provide timely briefings and progress reports to internal stakeholders on trade association activities and industry developments. Coordinate cross-industry initiatives in support of the company’s policy priorities.We are looking for candidates who possess the following:
Minimum eight years of government experience in Congress, executive branch agencies, regulatory bodies, trade associations, or lobbying. Deep understanding of federal policymaking processes, including legislative and regulatory procedures. Proven track record of building, expanding and nurturing bipartisan relationships with Congress and administration officials. Demonstrated integrity and reputation for reliability and follow-through. Strong analytical skills with experience in tracking, researching, and interpreting complex public policy issues.SKILLS
Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills with the ability to distill complex business priorities into compelling policy arguments. Proven ability to influence decision-makers and build consensus around challenging issues. Experience developing and delivering presentations to government officials. Strong collaborative skills with the ability to work effectively across diverse teams and stakeholder groups. Solid judgement and effective decision-making ability under pressure. Ability to think strategically while managing day-to-day tactical responsibilities.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Private sector experience, particularly in government affairs, public policy or advocacy roles. Knowledge of retail, grocery, or food industry.EDUCATION

The salary range is $114,000 to $155,000 annually. Starting salary will vary based on criteria such as location, experience, and qualifications. There may be flexibility for exceptional candidates. Benefits may include medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, sick pay, PTO Vacation pay/Flexible Time Off, paid holidays, bereavement pay and retirement benefits (such as 401(k) eligibility).
