The Director, E&D Project Delivery is accountable to lead complex capital-project engineering and design activities in alignment with J&J business objectives and E&PS Project Delivery Practices. This role focuses on the production of medicines—specifically bulk biologics (monoclonal antibodies), packaging processes (fill–finish), and clean utilities (Purified Water, Water for Injection). The Director is accountable for providing technical direction and coordinating process-system alignment for complex projects with J&J subject-matter experts and key business partners.
The role partners with the E&PS Data and Systems team and JJT partners to support implementation of the systems roadmap, including systems standardization and design, appropriate governance structures, and data input/output standards across project delivery. The Director is also responsible for leading an industrialized project-delivery approach that establishes reusable and scalable digital design standards, increases facility efficiency through best-in-class tools, reduces design and construction changes by leveraging technology, and shifts from a traditional “handover” model to seamless integration.
Key relationships include J&J Operating Company teams and E&PS Project/Design Managers—to ensure third-party architectural and engineering firms implement design elements accurately—and collaboration with SDP SMEs, EH&S, Security, Procurement, Risk Management, Quality, and GHS to ensure their requirements are understood and incorporated into designs.
**Key Responsibilities:**
+ Lead the overall engineering process including process and infrastructure design working closely with operating company engineering team and J&J SMEs.
+ Assure that the J&J IDEA Project Delivery Process is followed.
+ Work with the E&D Director, Project Dir./Project Mgr. to drive the performance (cost, schedule, quality) of A/E firm and define correction action plans if necessary.
+ Establish plans for personal talent development, diversification, and professional development
+ Develop personal yearly project and personal goals and objectives that support the overall J&J E&PS and development goals.
+ Execute short- and long-term tactical engineering initiatives and programs based on strategic project goals and objectives
+ Assure use of the Value Improving Practices (VIPs) Value Engineering and Constructability Reviews
+ Assure the appropriate J&J standards, guidelines, and regulatory requirements (cGXP, EHS, …) are incorporated
+ Coordinate/lead key design reviews with SMEs including other corporate or affiliate resources such as EHSS, Risk Management, WW Security, etc.
+ Assure that the J&J Standard Design Platforms are deployed on all projects. Setup project specific training for internal and external SMEs.
+ Assure projects meet the J&J Sustainability policy and drive the certification process.
+ Review AE progress and identify action plans where required to get back on track. Implement Earned Value tracking on larger projects. Ensure AE issues timely Monthly Reports
+ Lead effort to resolve key design conflicts in construction and commissioning phase with appropriate SMEs
+ Lead in the final close-out with the A/E firm including the Lessons Learned process
**Qualifications**
**Education** :
+ Bachelor’s or higher degree is required, preferably in Engineering
+ Master’s degree in engineering, Business, or related field is preferred
**Experience and Skills:**
**Required:**
+ Minimum of ten (10) years of related experience with engineering design and construction including knowledge of AutoCAD Systems.
+ Minimum of five (5) years of related project management experience.
+ Experience with project management related systems/tools such as SharePoint, Document Management systems, CMMS, MS Project, Project Management Processes and/or Property Management Tools.
+ Solid project management skills, proven organization, coordination, and action tracking skills; including project management processes, tools, and methodologies.
+ Strong business acumen and relationship building skills.
+ An ability to effectively partner and deliver results in a matrixed environment.
+ An ability to adapt to emerging standard methodologies and industry innovations
+ Ability to function effectively and multitask when presented with tight deadlines.
+ Excellent technical and analytical skills.
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
**Preferred:**
+ Experience leading complex workstreams, specifically across geographically dispersed or global teams
+ Experience building strategic relationships with internal and external project partners and stakeholders.
+ Global experience of J&J with respect to E&PS and business partner interaction.
+ Experience managing complex workstreams, specifically across geographically dispersed teams.
