What you’ll be doing

The Director, Controls Governance is a growing role within our Technology organization, ensuring the effective oversight, management, and continuous improvement of governance frameworks and processes. This role will focus on driving compliance, fostering stakeholder collaboration, and leading a team to deliver high-quality governance programs that align with organizational objectives. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a strategic mindset, and a passion for operational excellence.

How you’ll succeed

Governance and Oversight - Provide leadership and effective management of a Governance team to influence employee commitment, ensure accountability, and deliver on team objectives. Develop, implement, and maintain governance frameworks for SHR and Patch programs to ensure compliance with regulatory, organizational, and industry standards. Monitor and assess governance processes to identify gaps and implement corrective actions to mitigate risks.

Risk and Compliance - Demonstrate a broad understanding of Technology standards, processes, audit, assurance, and statutory/regulatory controls and obligations. Direct and support governance initiatives, providing technical and controls advice, as well as insight on assurance processes. Identify and mitigate risks through robust governance frameworks and risk management practices.

Stakeholder Engagement - Collaborate with stakeholders using a consultative approach to provide relevant governance updates, raise issues, and secure support as needed. Establish and maintain strong working relationships with teams across Technology Operations, Technology organizations, and other key stakeholders. Serve as the central point of contact for governance-related inquiries and escalations.

Continuous Improvement - Foster a culture of continuous improvement by identifying and implementing best practices, process enhancements, and innovative solutions. Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes to ensure CIBC remains at the forefront of governance practices.

Who you are

You can demonstrate 7+ years of experience in governance, risk management, or service management roles, preferably within the financial services industry.

You have strong knowledge of regulatory requirements, risk management practices, and governance frameworks.

You have strong leadership and influencing skills to drive change and foster collaboration across teams and proven track record of leading governance initiatives and driving operational improvements.

You have experience in Strategic and Tactical Planning with ability to contribute to operational (short-term), tactical (1–2 years), and strategic (3–5 years) planning in support of business objectives.

You have strong background in IT Systems Management. Knowledge of asset and process management practices, requirements, and support services for the IT function.

You have a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field. It is an asset if you also have a master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., COBIT, CISM, CGEIT) are considered assets.

You have strong relationship management skills. You have an ability to establish and build healthy working relationships with clients, vendors, and peers.

You are a strong communicator. You have Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.

You have strong Decision-Making and Critical Thinking skills. You are proficient in using a broad range of factors, assumptions, and frameworks to solve problems effectively.

You have excellent Interpersonal Relationships. You are skilled in working with individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.

You put attention to detail. You have a high level of accuracy and attention to detail in managing governance processes and compliance requirements.
