Director, Communications - Family Dollar
We are seeking a dynamic Director of Communications to lead strategic internal and external communications for Family Dollar as it embarks on an exciting new chapter as a standalone company. Reporting directly to the CHRO, this leader will be responsible for shaping and delivering a modern, integrated communications strategy that supports cultural and business transformation, enhances employee engagement, and reinforces Family Dollar’s brand identity across all audiences.
This individual will serve as a key advisor to senior leadership, drive messaging consistency across channels, and partner cross-functionally with teams such as Operations, HR, and Marketing to ensure alignment and impact. They will build and lead a high-performing communications team and bring a data-driven, narrative-first approach to storytelling and change management.
Key ResponsibilitiesLead the development and execution of communication strategies that support Family Dollar’s transformation, culture, and business prioritiesDesign and manage internal communication channels and campaigns to ensure message clarity, consistency, and engagement across all levels of the organizationPartner closely with Operations and Field Leadership to deliver clear, effective messaging that supports our store teams and frontline associatesBuild communication plans that enhance company culture, employee experience, and awareness of Family Dollar’s mission and valuesDevelop and implement external communications that support employer branding and community reputationCoach and support leaders on communication best practices, ensuring alignment and tone across the organizationEstablish clear measurement strategies to track effectiveness and continuously improve communication effortsManage relationships with external partners and agencies as neededFoster and develop a strong, collaborative communications team aligned with business goalsQualificationsBachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field (or equivalent experience)15+ years of progressive experience in corporate communications, with demonstrated success leading communications during major change or transformation initiativesRetail industry experience preferredExceptional written, verbal, and presentation skillsProven ability to partner with senior leaders and influence at all levelsStrong project management skills and ability to manage multiple prioritiesProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
