PeaceHealth is seeking a Dir Service Line - Laboratory for a Full Time, 1.00 FTE, Day position. The salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $72.67 – $109.01. The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, seniority, etc.

**Job Summary**
Serves as the clinical laboratory leader responsible for facilitating an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach in the delivery of care and programs; partnering with clinic Pathologist(s) and operational leadership to provide effective and proactive management of laboratory operations ensuring exceptional services to patients; achieving annual operational and financial goals; and for managing caregivers.
**Essential Functions**
+ Oversees adherence to operational and performance standards for assigned laboratory teams and sections. Manages daily ambulatory lab operations to meet strategic objectives, including sample processing, testing, and reporting.
+ Manages caregivers in preanalytical and analytical phases of testing including but not limited to: phlebotomists, lab assistants, couriers, lab scientists, laboratory IT, and technicians.
+ Translates laboratory protocols and business plans into actionable tasks, ensuring compliance with CLIA, CAP, and other regulatory/accreditation requirements.
+ Monitors and reports on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as turnaround time (TAT), quality control (QC) results, and proficiency testing (PT) performance, implementing quality assurance measures.
+ Identifies and resolves technical and operational obstacles, developing contingency plans for instrument failures or reagent shortages.
+ Develops, implements, and evaluates laboratory strategies, programs, and policies in collaboration with senior leadership and the Lab Management team.
+ Establishes and maintains strategic relationships with key stakeholders, including clinicians, pathologists, and vendors.
+ Ensures consistent application of laboratory protocols and adherence to service level agreements for testing.
+ Implements short- and long-range departmental goals related to test menu expansion, equipment acquisition, and process optimization.
+ Provides direct and indirect supervision of lab personnel, including medical technologists, technicians, and support staff, encompassing recruitment, training, and performance management. Fosters professional growth through continuous education, competency assessments, and development opportunities related to new testing methodologies and instrumentation.
+ Delegates tasks, encourages open communication, and builds team accountability for accurate and timely test results.
+ Oversees laboratory facilities, including equipment calibration and maintenance, and manages facilities issues with internal and external vendors.
+ Manages laboratory budgets, ensuring adherence to allocations for reagents, consumables, and equipment, and contributes to budget planning.
+ Manages laboratory projects, such as equipment validation or new test implementation, by developing project plans, managing resources, and ensuring timely completion.
+ Collaborates on process and system improvements across laboratory sections and with clinical teams, focusing on efficiency and accuracy.
+ Addresses laboratory-related complaints and concerns, ensuring proper documentation and corrective actions.
+ Ensures proper validation and verification of new assays and instrumentation.
+ Establishes and maintains relationships with vendors, reference laboratories, and regulatory agencies.
+ Represents the laboratory on regional and local committees and events, such as quality improvement initiatives or accreditation surveys. Actively participates in and/or leads various laboratory committees, meetings, and workgroups.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
**Qualifications**
**Education**
+ Bachelor's Degree Required: in Medical Laboratory Science or
+ Bachelor's Degree Required: in General Science with MLS (ASCP) and
**Experience**
+ Minimum of 5 years Required: experience in management of a clinical laboratory and
+ Minimum of 7 years Required: experience in lab management and
+ Minimum of 1 year Preferred: experience in leading a lab build or move
+ Preferred: Experience in process improvement methodology
**Credentials**
+ Required: Medical Technologist - Medical Laboratory Scientist MLS or
+ Required: MLT ASCP
**Skills**
+ Strong problem solving, decision making, team building, process improvement, leadership and time management skills. (Required)
+ Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal. (Required)
+ Proficient in the use of computers including MS Office applications. (Required)
+ Strong financial management skills including analytical skill and familiarity with benchmarking financial and operational performance. (Required)
+ Demonstrated ability to embrace and promote teamwork. (Required)
+ Knowledge of an experience with continuous improvement techniques and methodologies. (Required)
+ Demonstrated competence in developing business plans for new services and capital equipment. (Required)
