Responsible for assisting pathologists in postmortem examinations. Records information for morgue filing and documentation. Releases body to authorized person. Cleans table, trays, and instruments and maintains sanitation. Ensures compliance with standard operating procedures.


Principal Accountabilities:

1. Prepares bodies, specimens of human organs, and morgue room. 
2. Places body in compartment tray of refrigerator or on autopsy table, using portable hoist and stretcher. 
3. Lays out surgical instruments and laboratory supplies for postmortem examinations. 
4. Sharpens knives, replaces soiled linens, and washes table, storage trays, and instruments.
5. Closes post mortem incisions, using surgical needle and cord. 
6. Fills cranium with plaster and prepares preserving solutions according to formulas.
7. Preserves specimens and stain slides and photographs specimens.
8. Performs other related duties as assigned.
