Fairview Hospital’s Dialysis Unit cares for patients with kidney failure, including those with diabetes, hypertension, COPD, post-surgical needs, or who are non-compliant with outpatient visits. Patients in this unit are typically very ill and require intensive care and monitoring. As a Dialysis Technician II, you will perform and support Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) and Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) procedures for acutely ill patients in the ICU and hospital setting. In this role, you will carry out technical support responsibilities, including the preparation and packaging of dialysate mixtures and baths, performing bacteriological sampling of dialysis equipment and subsystems and assisting with approved clinical research projects.
A caregiver in this position works days from 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. with rotating weekend (Saturday) and holiday requirements.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Perform and support Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) and Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) procedures on acutely ill patients.
Perform and support Continuous Renal Replacement therapies (CVVH, CVVHD, CVVHDF, SCUF and ECMO) in the ICUs and O.R's by preparing dialysis solutions, setting up machines and attaching the treatment to the patient for 24-hour continuous therapy and serving as a 24-hour resource for the ICU nurses for any alarms or questions regarding the patient's therapy.
Perform technical support responsibilities that include preparing, transferring, and packaging dialysis mixtures and baths (acid and bicarb).
Assist with basic equipment usage issues and troubleshooting.
Draw bio samples of equipment and systems.
Clean and disinfect equipment, reusable jugs, and systems.
Receive and stock delivered supplies.
Responsible for doping Potassium in acid concentrate jugs.
Refill jugs with needed dialysis solutions.
Make packaging and deliver CRRT dialysate bags.
Conduct 5S zone responsibilities.
Teach and support other employees and personnel.
Assist with research projects as needed.
Monitor and chart the central water system.
Assist with clinical research projects.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High School Diploma or GED
Certified by the current State as a Certified Dialysis Technician (CDT) and maintain current certification
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
Two years of prior Intermittent Hemodialysis (IHD) experience
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Prior experience in Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) and Peritoneal Dialysis (PD)
Prior dialysis experience
ICU, nursing or med/surg experience
Chronic, acute or agency experience
Physical Requirements:
Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination to perform dialysis procedures. .
Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids on a daily basis.
Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
