Diagnostic Medical Sonographers use ultrasound imaging technology to assist physicians in diagnosing and assessing a wide range of medical conditions. As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, you will operate ultrasound equipment to capture high-quality images, ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout the procedure. You will ensure patient safety, position patients correctly, adjust scan settings and work closely with radiologists to assist in accurate diagnoses. **A caregiver in this role works a PRN scheduled as needed.** A caregiver who excels in this role will: + Perform diagnostic sonographic imaging through the application of non-ionizing, high-frequency sound waves for patients of all ages. + Perform ultrasound studies (i.e. obstetrical, GYN, abdominal, retro peritoneal, small parts, pediatric, and vascular). + Consult with referring physicians regarding patients' medical history and selection of appropriate procedures and equipment required for proper diagnosis. + Review charts, previous reports and requisition prior to the exam. + Educate patients regarding procedures, equipment and exams to ensure understanding and cooperation. + Ensure patients' comfort and safety during and after the exam. + Assist with scheduling of patients and schedule all emergency patients for diagnostic ultrasound procedures. + Monitor all appointments scheduled for ultrasound examinations. + Perform preliminary research on patients when preparations are not provided and determine priority of patients based on the daily schedules. + Acquire, archive, transmit and print images via PACS. + Complete after-hours transmission of images and appropriate paperwork. + Immediately report any malfunctions to help desk and PACS Administrator. + Process billing via RIS. + Ensure proper function of ultrasound equipment and notify clinical engineering of any equipment malfunctions. + Supply exam rooms with linen and related medical supplies. + Assist with clinical instruction of ultrasound students and residents and in-service education of caregivers. + Assist with orienting new caregivers to the equipment, department procedures and scanning protocols. + Demonstrate ultrasound equipment for caregivers and visitors. + Potentially rotate through all diagnostic imaging modalities, sites and/or locations. + Assist in new investigative techniques, procedures and equipment. + Maintain the most up to date knowledge in the field through self-motivated education and attendance of appropriate conferences and symposiums. + If working within the Imaging Institute, perform non-invasive vascular studies to include veins, arteries, pulse volume readings and assist the physician during invasive studies. Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: + Graduate of an accredited school in Diagnostic Medical Sonography and in good standing + Registered Diagnostic Sonographer (RDMS) through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) RT(S) or RT(VS) upon hire + One certification within abdominal (RDMS, AB), OB/GYN (RDMS, OB/GYN) or vascular (RVT, VT) through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) upon hire. The other two certifications must be obtained within 18 months of hire + Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: + One year experience as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer **Physical Requirements:** + Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time. + Must be able to lift or assist with lifting patients of varying weight and manipulate equipment daily. **Personal Protective Equipment:** + Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required. **Pay Range** Minimum hourly: $44.00 Maximum hourly: $44.00 The pay range displayed on this job posting reflects the anticipated range for new hires. A successful candidate's actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate's work history, experience, skill set and education. The pay range displayed does not include any applicable pay practices (e.g., shift differentials, overtime, etc.).
