+ KBR provides provide integrated Base Operations Support (BOS) services to the Commanding Officer, Navy Support Facility, Diego Garcia (NSF DG) in support of its mission as a Forward, logistics, support base in the British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT).
Job Summary
+ The Crane Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of various crane types, makes, and models in accordance with established safety standards and operational guidelines. This role includes conducting thorough pre-use inspections at the start of each shift, fully understanding each lift plan, actively participating in pre-lift briefings, and maintaining clear communication with the rigger-in-charge or designated rigger throughout operations. The Crane Operator executes all movements only as directed when such direction is required (e.g., for cab-operated cranes).
+ The position requires demonstrated qualifications and technical competence in the operation and maintenance of Weight Handling Equipment (WHE), Material Handling Equipment (MHE), and Ordnance Handling Equipment (OHE). Candidates must have successfully completed all required NAVFAC P-307 training courses as mandated by the Navy Crane Center.
Roles and Responsibilities
+ Operates a variety of crane types, makes, and models.
+ In charge of the crane's safe operation.
+ Performs a pre-use crane inspection at the outset of the shift, thoroughly understands the lift before starting, including participation in pre-lift briefings, maintains contact with the rigger-in-charge or designated rigger during the operation, and makes movements only when directed to do so (when such direction is required, e.g., for cab-operated cranes).
+ Refuse to operate the crane if there are concerns about the operation's safety.
+ Trained to approach limit switches (hoist, rotate, and travel) slowly.
+ Lifts and moves items and objects using a gasoline or diesel-powered crane placed on a specially built truck chassis.
+ Drives the truck to the job site and guides others in the placement of blocks and outriggers to prevent capsizing when lifting heavy loads.
+ Starts the crane engine. Rotates crane on chassis raises and lowers crane boom, and raises and lowers load line by using levers and pedals.
+ Operates crane in response to a signal from the crane rigger.
+ Connects boom parts to extend or alter boom for pile driving or high lifting.
+ Examines cables and grappling devices for wear and tear; installs or replaces cables
+ Carries out maintenance activities such as oiling the equipment.
+ May direct crane riggers who are involved in the placement of blocks, rigging, and cribbing under cranes when lifting cargoes.
+ Operates a crane with a pneumatically driven lifting mechanism.
+ Adheres to corporate policy, as described in NAVFAC P-307 work instructions and compliance.
+ Performs other related duties as may be assigned by Supervisor Crane Operations and Base Support Vehicle & Equipment (BSVE) Transportation Manager.
Basic Qualifications
+ Must be qualified and technically competent in Weight Handling Equipment, Material Handling Equipment, and Ordinance Handling Equipment operation and maintenance procedures.
+ Must have an excellent understanding of all safety directives and policies regarding the operation of equipment.
+ Knowledge of proper securing methods for various types of cargo; using ropes, blocks, chains, binders, and/or covers.
+ Knowledge of proper rigging techniques for lifting objects and materials.
+ Must speak, read, and understand the English language.
+ Must pass overseas medical screening and be in good health.
+ Must have a valid country of origin Professional Driver’s License with the following license codes and be able to operate the assigned crane and heavy equipment vehicles.
Preferred Qualifications
JOB SPECIFICATIONS: SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS OR TRAINING
+ Must have successfully passed and completed the required following NAVFAC P-307 training course by Navy Crane Center.
+ Must have completed Crane Certifications is highly desired:
+ Crane Operator
+ HEO (Crawler Crane)
+ HEO (Gantry Crane)
+ HEO (Overhead and Gantry Crane)
+ HEO (Rough Terrain Crane)
+ HEO (Tower Crane)
+ HEO (Truck Mounted Crane)
EDUCATION:
+ Must have at least a high school diploma or equivalent is required.
EXPERIENCE:
+ Must have a minimum of five (5) years of experience as a crane operator.
