We address these needs primarily by developing innovative medicines—investing a higher percentage of our sales in research and development than any other major pharmaceutical company.
The Drug Delivery and New Product Innovation (DDNPI) Group within Lilly’s DDCS (Delivery and Device Connected Solutions) function studies physiological barriers across various routes of administration to apply and create novel patient centric drug delivery solutions. With a broad focus on developing injection device platforms and novel delivery devices to improve patient care, the group focuses on serving as a Center of Excellence in the following areas:
• Injection physiology (across various injection barriers) and new device ideation including modeling and simulation
• Develop novel drug delivery technologies (for all modalities across various routes of administration) to create next gen patient centric medicines
• Nanomedicine and targeted delivery
• Connected devices and digital biomarkers
We are seeking a highly motivated engineer to participate in early-stage development of hand-held, subcutaneous, self-administered delivery devices. These device projects include iterations of existing Lilly platforms as well as development of new internal and external platforms.
Responsibilities:
• The initial creation, prototyping, and advanced development of conceptual device designs/modification incorporating mechanical & electrical engineering, human factors, industrial design, materials, primary drug containers, manufacturability and other disciplines.
• This non-GMP stage of development is completed without design controls but does rigorously evaluate and document the potential value the Proof-of-Concept delivery device could provide to Lilly.
• These device concepts can include various forms of conductivity, data collection hardware, and/or interface with mobile medical applications.
• Contribute to advancing and evaluating electro-mechanical conceptual device designs by providing engineering assessments and manufacturability evaluations.
• Leverage Contract Development & Manufacturing Organizations (CDMO), integrating design activities such as user interaction, drug delivery performance, detailed engineering design, embedded systems, power budget, risk evaluation, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Tolerance Stacks, moldability, component feeding and assembly
• Oversee release and fabrication of injection molded prototype tooling, understanding material choices, evaluation of molded components as well as organized, documented manual assembly of these conceptual devices with desired drug product or placebo, and creating electronical design prototypes for connected solution devices.
• Create a component fabrication/procurement process at a CDMO that could also become a bridge to enable future small-scale qualifiable device assembly & packaging (Crawl/Walk Line) to support Clinical Trials (CTs) and create Submission Data.
• In concert with senior engineers, curate a collection of competitive device samples as well as participating in teardowns, testing, manufacturability assessments and management of electronic repository of datasets/reports that supports intuitive retrieval of this competitive intelligence information.
Basic Requirements:
• BS in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience, with 3 to 10 years of professional experience, preferred.
• Skilled and experience in Product Development is desired.
• Professional license in engineering or project management desired.
