As a Development Lab Technician III on the Project Kuiper DevOps team, you will bring a strong base of hands-on skills in mechanical or electrical disciplines to support complex development hardware tasks. You will work semi-autonomously on test setups, prototype builds, and tool/process improvements alongside Lab Engineers, and will play a key role in maintaining a safe, functional, and scalable development lab.
Key job responsibilities
- Independently execute electrical and mechanical tasks such as harness routing, basic machining, assembly, and test fixture wiring.
- Set up and operate equipment with moderate complexity (e.g., bench-top mills, soldering stations, oscilloscopes, DAQ systems).
- Perform functional checks, basic debug, and assist in root cause analysis with engineers.
- Interpret moderately complex drawings, schematics, and build instructions.
- Support development article fabrication and document feedback on fit/form/function issues.
- Mentor Tech IIs or cross-train others on specialized procedures or equipment.
- Help improve and define lab procedures, support 6S/Kaizen activities, and maintain tooling/supply readiness.
- Maintain high standards for lab safety, data cleanliness, and documentation practices.
