Detention and Demurrage Analyst

Join us as a Demurrage & Detention Analyst in São Paulo’s exciting hybrid model, where you’ll dive into demurrage and detention charge analysis, review bills of lading and gate-in/gate-out logs, calculate critical laytime, issue invoices via Navisphere, and negotiate disputes with carriers and clients.

You’ll partner with sales, operations, and finance to deliver eye-opening KPI reports, drive automation projects that slash expenses, and mentor junior teammates—all while thriving in a fast-paced, data-driven environment. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties and responsibilities of this position consist of, but are not limited to, the following:

Monitor and analyze demurrage and detention charges for both shipping and cargo operations.Review loading and discharge logs to identify valid claim periods.Track container movements and free time to identify potential cost exposures.Submit and counter claims based on purchase/sale contracts and charter party terms.Review shipping documentation (BLs, arrival notices, gate-in/gate-out reports).Issue invoices and proformas via systems like Navisphere.Validate and reconcile charges against contractual terms and actual performance.Analyze laytime calculations and vessel performance data.Maintain visibility and control over equipment tracking and cost recovery.Customize and present monthly reports with KPIs and cost-saving strategies.Support automation and process improvement initiatives.Train junior staff on detention/demurrage procedures and systems.Negotiate with shipping lines and clients regarding disputes and payment terms.Communicate with suppliers, receivers, and vessel owners to resolve disputes.Work with sales, operations, and finance teams to ensure timely claim execution.Collaborate with internal teams to ensure data accuracy.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

High School Diploma or GED.Experience in global forwarding, procurement, product development, or supply chain operations.Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Portuguese and English.

Preferred:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.Prior experience in demurrage claims or shipping operations preferredStrong analytical and problem-solving skills.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and data analysis tools.Ability to collaborate effectively across teams in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.Ability to influence stakeholders and drive process improvements
