Job Title: Distribution Design Engineer (Entry-Level)
Description:
We are seeking an entry-level Distribution Design Engineer to support overhead and underground distribution and/or transmission system projects. This role involves assessing existing infrastructure, recommending improvements, and supporting design and project management activities. The ideal candidate will assist with estimating, coordinating with drafting teams, and addressing client-specific needs for maintenance, upgrades, and new builds. Responsibilities may also include performing electrical load calculations and supporting permitting processes for overhead/aerial utility construction.
This position will primarily support Pacific Gas & Electric’s (PGE) fire mitigation and reconductor programs, with a focus on vegetation management design and equipment/pole replacements for aging infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Evaluate current distribution and transmission systems and recommend design modifications.
+ Provide project management support, including estimating and coordination.
+ Collaborate with drafters and engineers to develop design packages.
+ Perform pole loading and structural capacity calculations.
+ Support permitting processes for overhead utility construction.
+ Contribute to fire mitigation and infrastructure upgrade initiatives.
Required Skills:
+ Knowledge of distribution and transmission design principles.
+ Familiarity with AutoCAD and other design/modeling tools.
+ Understanding of pole load calculations and construction design.
+ Experience with software such as PoleForeman, O-Calc, or similar tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ 1–3+ years of experience in drafting, design, engineering, or utility construction.
+ Degree in Engineering or Construction Management (preferred but not required).
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
+ Experience with design/modeling software (AutoCAD, PLS-CADD, Maximo, etc.).
+ Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently.
+ Self-motivated with a proactive approach to problem-solving and collaboration.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $50.00/hr.
