FHP Manufacturing, located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is a joint venture between Robert Bosch (BOSCH Group) and Carrier FHP Manufacturing is a leader in the production of geothermal and water source heat pumps, providing some of the most efficient heating and cooling comfort solutions in the industry.
We are looking for a Design Manager to lead the development of our Water Source Heat Pump (WSHP) product line. In this role, you will lead and oversee a team of design engineers, review and guide their work daily and collaborate with an external corporate design service team. This role requires strong technical leadership, hands-on task management, and a passion for delivering high-quality designs and improve the team awareness and discipline for a complete and mature design
• Supervise and mentor an internal team of j designers; conduct regular design reviews and corrections.
• Manage daily task creation, prioritization, and assignment for internal and external design teams
• Coordinate and communicate effectively and improve designing maturity of external corporate service design team.
• Provide clear, actionable feedback to internal and external teams.
• Ensure all WSHP designs meet technical specifications, industry standards, and project milestones.
• Proactively identify design risks and implement corrective actions and create /improve the design guidelines for our products
• Develop and maintain design schedules and progress tracking tools.
• Support cross-functional collaboration with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Technical Service Department’s teams.
• Maintain high standards for CAD modeling, drawings, BOMs, and related technical documentation.
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
• 7+ years of design engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
• Strong background in HVAC product development; experience with Water Source Heat Pumps is highly preferred.
• Expertise in CAD software (e.g., Unigraphics, Team Center and SAP systems.)
• Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop junior engineering/design talent.
• Exceptional organizational, prioritization, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, drive deliverables, and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
• Knowledge of industry standards and regulatory requirements (e.g. ISO standards for drawings, UL, ASHRAE, AHRI, CE, ISO) is a plus.
Preferred Skills
• Experience coordinating with external or outsourced design teams.
• Understanding of UL standards, AHRI performance standards, and HVAC regulatory requirements.
• Familiarity with sheet metal, copper tube bending and plastic part design for manufacturability
