As a product development engineer, you might research emerging technologies, design new machines and engines, create software solutions, or test and validate product designs.
The Large Power System Division currently has a Design Electrical Engineer position located at our Bangalore India facility. In this role, you will participate/lead the design and development effort for AC synchronous generators and controls used on reciprocating engines. Application of diesel engines, generating sets in the Electric Power, Oil & Gas and Marine markets. Generator size range is 300KW to 6000KW.
**Role Definition:**
Creates, implements and improves engineering designs, processes, techniques, tooling and machinery to meet customer requirements and maximize product quality.
**Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:**
• Participate/lead the project management activities for assigned generator product development projects
• Responsible for all aspects of the generator engineering development including controls design supplied by generator manufacturer
• Manage project scope, schedule and cost
• Design the best solution to meet marketing, customer, product and project objectives
• Work closely with the purchasing team to identify and develop strategic supply chain partners for generator components and finished goods
• Establishes and maintains compliance with the project budget/ timelines for generators and controls
• Keep abreast of new technology and competitive products associated with AC synchronous generators and controls
• Participate/lead new materials selection and development efforts to provide state-of-the-art technological advantages
• Participate and lead product cost reduction efforts
**Basic Qualifications:**
• Currently attending a 4-year accredited university/college or have completed a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and/or Electrical Engineering Technology
• Demonstrated initiative and sense of urgency relative to customer requirements and creative problem solving across organizational boundaries
• High level of oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills
• Ability to maintain utmost discretion and manage confidential and privileged information
• Ability work with other team members to research and analyze customer specifications to create design proposals to meet performance, customer and manufacturing requirements
**Top Candidates will also have:**
• Proven analytical, planning, and organization skills
• Knowledge of control and power system design
• Experience with high speed and medium speed reciprocating engine gensets
• Quality focus and experience with quality systems
• Ability to manage product cost
• Proven success of 1 or more years designing and developing high power three phase AC synchronous generators in a team environment
• Knowledge of IEEE, NEMA, UL and IEC standards for testing and rating electrical machines
• Knowledge of insulation material dielectric and thermal characteristics currently used in high performance electrical machines
• Knowledge on how to optimize generator efficiency considering output rating, physical size and material costs
• Knowledge of electrical machine design principles, including calculation of machine equivalent circuit characteristics, magnetic saturation, electrical losses, selection of insulation materials, temperature rise of machine components, and electrical/mechanical performance calculations
• Technical understanding of material selection, component design practices and DFMEA for electrical and mechanical components of generators
• Experience using ProE, CAD Engineering Tools or Custom Computer Programs to design. develop, and calculate electrical machine performance
• Knowledge of engineering manufacturing methods and production processes used to produce AC synchronous generators.
• Knowledge in grid code certification process
