Deputy Project Director, SGR

Job Description

Overview

The Deputy SGR Project Director works closely with the Project Director to ensure senior level direction and support is provided to the Project. In many situations, the Deputy SGR Project Director will act on behalf of the SGR Project Director, particularly when the SGR Project Director is not available.

In addition to that, the Deputy SGR Project Director will have overall accountability for the progression of planning and readiness activities of critical scopes. For this, the Deputy SGR Project Director must ensure that the related resources are properly located, engaged and managed to meet Project requirements and aligned with the SGR strategy.

This position provides leadership and alignment for all activities related to the above scope. It is the primary point of contact to ensure a consistent, deliberate, and clear methodology is used for key decisions, and advancement of deliverables his scope of work. This position reports to the RFBR’s SGR Project Director.

Your role

Lead by example to ensure a “ONE TEAM” Project-First, collaborative approach for internal, external, cross-JV and client-facing interactions. Create the context that promotes this and other values that are required to make the project successful.Support the SGR Project Director in creating and sharing the vision of project success with the team.Ensure the project team has a clear understanding of contractual requirements.Ensure the key partner is properly resourced and aligned, and resolve issues related to.In conjunction with the SGR Project Director, ensure adequate project systems are in place to monitor the performance indicators that will lead to project success (e.g. include leading and lagging indicators as appropriate). Identify targets where appropriate.Support the development and maintenance of the Project Succession Plan, including identification and development of high potentials, and strategies to provide growth opportunities. Also, to ensure team members understand where they fit on the Project Succession Plan.Act as SGR Project Director when required.Ensure the delivery of all its scope in accordance with safety standards, on time, on budget and compliant with the Contract.Provide regular and accurate progress updates to the SGR Project Director, CanAtom Project Controls and the client for reporting purposes.The Deputy SGR Project Director is accountable for the cost & schedule adherence and management of threats and opportunities, including timely escalation.Early identifying any threats to Project schedule or cost profile, or quality issues.Constantly monitor schedule and cost reduction opportunities across his scope of work. In particular, the Deputy SGR Project Director should be continuously looking for more efficient methods to perform the Work.Work collaboratively with the SGR stakeholders to ensure the Project requirements are met and represent the most efficient methods to deliver its Scope.Driving compensatory actions related to adverse quality trends during the project.As a member of the SGR Project Leadership Team, participates in regular meetings and provides advice and support to the other members.Support the development and maintenance of the Project Risk Register. Specifically, responsible for the identification, mitigation and management of related risk items for responsible scopes.Stakeholder with the Client on requests for contract changes in close collaboration with the support team.Tracking and expediting internal and external deliverables as part of the contract.SPOC for its scope for all the SGR organization.Ensure support and technical assistance are deployed to the Construction team during the construction phase on Site.Provide frequent, informal performance feedback to SGR team members, and formal feedback according to home office company policy. Endeavor the feedback to be in person wherever possible.Additional duties as assigned.

About you

10+ years of related experience, ideally in lifetime extension projects in nuclear environment.Quantitative, Engineering or Construction Management Post-Secondary Degree.Strong Team Collaboration Skills.Detail Oriented Approach, Focused on Quality.Strong Verbal & Written Communication Skills.Agility & Flexibility in a Dynamic Environment.Innovative Problem-Solving Skills.EPC Contractor Experience.Construction Field Experience in nuclear environment.Mega-project or Portfolio Projects Experience in nuclear environment.Demonstrated Project Management Knowledge (e.g. via PMI Certification).Demonstrated leadership of construction trades and professional project staff required.Consensus Building Experience.Claims Avoidance and/or Claims Negotiation Experience.Leadership Experience in High-Performing Teams.Primavera P6 Knowledge.Experience with project management toolset including planning, staffing, scheduling, risk management, performance measurement, and cost controls.

Physical Demands:

Work is 100% physically present in the office/site. Work locations will be a mixture of Project and Client offices (at or around Pickering Nuclear Generating Station). Most of the time will be spent on site during execution.Travel as necessary to vendor sites.
