DEPUTY DIVISION CHIEF
PRIVACY RESPONSIBLE TECHNOLOGY DIVISION

Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell is looking for a highly-motivated attorney who is passionate about public service to join her office as Deputy Chief in the Privacy and Responsible Technology Division (PRTD). The Division, which is part of the Attorney General’s Public Protection and Advocacy Bureau, investigates and litigates cutting-edge issues in emerging innovations. The Division works to address unfair or deceptive use of consumer data, to maintain data security and privacy, and to address technologies that may manipulate consumers, including youth.
Primary Duties:
The Deputy Division Chief will take an active part in working with the Division Chief to oversee, strategize, and pursue litigation and investigations surrounding data security, data privacy, and online or digital abuses. The Deputy Division Chief will be expected to assist with the administrative oversight of the Division, including preparation of reports, tracking and management of case statuses, and setting and streamlining of internal policies and procedures. Duties will also include independently leading investigations and enforcement actions, supervising and assisting staff in their matters, as well as learning new industries and technologies, collaborating with other state and federal enforcement entities, and negotiating resolutions that serve the public interest. The Deputy Division Chief will be expected to contribute to the development and growth of all attorneys and staff in the Division. The Deputy Division Chief must effectively and efficiently work alongside many different bureaus and divisions within the Office. There are also opportunities to assist in educational and policy work to protect privacy interests and prevent the unfair and deceptive use of technology.
Position Type: Full-Time/Exempt.
Our current hybrid model includes some remote workdays for most positions. On in-office days, employees are required to report to one of our designated office locations, either in Boston or at a regional office.
Salary: $126,531

· Must be a member of the Massachusetts bar or eligible for admission in short order.
· At least seven (7) years of complex litigation experience, which may include judicial clerkships, preferred.
· Familiarity with Massachusetts consumer protection laws and data security laws, preferred.
· Demonstrated ability to effectively manage and collaborate on differing matters among teams whose members have various experience levels and skill sets.
· Ability to understand different work styles and effectively expand and improve the skill sets of the staff of the Division.
· Sound and thoughtful judgment and decision-making skills.
· Clear and persuasive written and oral communication skills and legal research capabilities.
· Effective organizational skills, time management abilities, and attention to detail.
While expertise in matters concerning technology is not required, a candidate should demonstrate an eagerness and ability to learn complex concepts and effectively explain them to a court, jury, or the public.
