Job Description

Major Responsibilities
- Reporting to the Team Leader and Design Director, assign tasks to staff to maximize the quality of work and overall efficiency of the Architecture department, a studio of 20 people for a portfolio of projects valued at approximately $750 million in design, procurement and construction.
- Develop methodologies for comprehensive research, preservation, renovation, and adaptive reuse of significant buildings, sites, interiors and districts. Direct the preparation of standards for items such as historically correct paint colors, designs for signs, storefronts, ironwork, cornices, doors, sash and trim for various periods and styles of architecture and present for adoption.
- Develop methodologies for enhancing consultant project management within the Architecture unit, including training staff and developing resources for consistent and effective consultant project management across the portfolio.
- Monitor design progress and staff for compliance with project milestone dates.
- Direct design staff to ensure project designs are well-thought-out and can be delivered on budget. Coordinate with support units and consultants to prioritize workload to ensure schedules are met throughout the process and assistance is provided as needed.
- Ensure documents are submitted to oversight regulatory agencies as required to obtain timely approvals. Review graphic and written design documents to ensure documents effectively convey the project's intent.
- Maintain liaison with local planning boards, community groups and other City agencies on the identification, designation, protection, improvement and new uses of individual landmarks and buildings in historic districts. Represent projects and the Agency to outside organizations such as community boards, community interest groups and other city or state agencies.
- Assist with hiring, training, annual evaluations and all administrative/personnel oversight. Assess staff skills and provide constructive direction for professional development.

Qualification Requirements
1. A Master's Degree from an accredited college with a major in historic preservation, architectural history, art history, architecture or civil engineering and five years of full-time paid experience in architecture, restoration or preservation of historic structures, research in architectural history or in teaching architecture, preservation or architectural history, at least two years of which must have been in a supervisory or administrative capacity; or
2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college with a major as described above and six years of experience as described above, at least two years of which must have been in a supervisory or administrative capacity; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" and "2". However, all candidates must have a baccalaureate degree as described above and at least two years of full-time paid experience as described above, one year of which must have
been in a supervisory or administrative capacity.

Salary Min: $110,000.00
Salary Max: $120,000.00
