**Job Summary and Qualifications**
This employee coordinates the scheduling of outpatient Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine Center appointments. Obtains precertification/authorizations for patients, and obtains and enters insurance information. This employee is responsible for timely and accurate patient registration. Interviews patients for all pertinent account information and verifies insurance coverage. Responsible for facilitating and completing wound healing and hyperbaric medicine department patient scheduling administrative and clerical tasks. Collects and verifies patient related information for the purposes of expediting the admission to and discharge from wound healing and hyperbaric medicine services. Reregisters patients for services and collaborates with related personnel of the outpatient program as well as assisting the Director/Manager / Supervisor to assure the efficient operation of the outpatient program. Able to interact with patients, staff, physicians, and the public in a professional, friendly, and diplomatic fashion while maintaining confidentiality. Must be familiar with computer EMR and word processing software. Assists in the maintenance of departmental environmental conditions compatible with optimum patient care
**What you will do in this role:**
+ Aids guidance and direction to patients, visitors and physicians.
+ Interview patients at workstation to obtain all necessary account information.
+ Follow AIDET guidelines in all interactions with the patient.
+ Provide exemplary Customer Service.
+ Ensure charts are completed and accurate.
+ Receive and files referrals in Leading Reach or equivalent and Front Office Scanning.
+ Obtain copies of necessary identification and insurance cards.
+ Calculate and collect patient liability amounts.
+ Work with physician offices and ancillary departments, providing information when necessary or forwarding relevant documents.
+ Schedules for new and recurring patients per department guideline.
+ Set up and monitor 30-day RCR accounts and checks for correct admit/discharge and roll over dates.
+ Process patient charts according to paperwork flow on a 30-day basis and at final discharge to HIM.
+ Assign Insurance Plans (Plans) accurately.
+ Search MPI completely and assign the correct medical record number.
+ Notify HIM for any duplicate unit numbers.
+ Verify insurance benefits and determines pre-certification/authorization status via online or other resources. If precertification/authorization/notification of admission is required and has not been obtained, initiate via Passport, on-line or phone call. - Enter all information and authorization/referral numbers into the registration system.
+ Secure all signatures necessary for treatments, release of medical information, assignment of insurance benefits, and payment of services from legally responsible parties.
+ Understand/explain policies regarding services, pricing, insurance billing, and payment of account. Request full or partial payment for services rendered according to collection policies.
+ Follows all guidelines set forth in the Cash Handling policy. Produce paperwork on each patient for distribution to appropriate departments.
+ Activate all pre-registered patients that have reported for service.
+ Facilitates referrals and authorizations verifications needed for outgoing ordered imaging or labs.
+ Meets/exceeds performance expectations and completes work within the required timeframe.
+ Maintains front office stock and supplies.
+ Keeps the work area clean and neat and paperwork filed.
+ Completes tasks on time with minimal guidance.
+ Uses computerized Meditech and EMR systems to obtain and store pertinent patient information and communicate.
+ Follows age-specific care for the following age groups: adolescents, adults and geriatrics.
+ Demonstrates understanding of HCA’s and “Patients First” safety initiative by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures.
+ Performs general secretarial duties.
+ Accurately compiles departmental reports.
+ Practice and adhere to the “Code of Conduct” philosophy and “Mission and Value Statement”.
+ Performs other duties in department as required or assigned.
