Summary The St. Cloud VA Heath Care System is looking to hire a full-time General Dentist, for our Dental Service. Education Repayment is eligible for this position. Responsibilities GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF ASSIGNED DUTIES: The general dentistry staff Dentist serves as a practicing Dentist who performs a full range of professional dental procedures in connection with the treatment of commonly encountered dental diseases or dental health problems requiring standard corrective, restorative, or preventive measures. FUNCTIONS OR SCOPE OF ASSIGNED DUTIES: The general dentistry staff Dentist shall be proficient in all aspects of general dentistry including the ability to perform selected specialty services. Specifically, the provider should possess the expertise and competency to perform the following (though not limited to): 1. Make oral and radiographic examinations of the oral cavity 2. Diagnose pathological or irregular oral conditions. 3. Administer local anesthesia. 4. Perform routine and complex restoration of teeth. 5. Perform simple and complex extractions of teeth. 6. Perform alveoloplasty and other routine surgical procedures. 7. Perform prosthetic dentistry to include immediate dentures, full dentures, partial dentures, crowns and fixed bridge work. 8. Perform routine endodontic procedures on single and multi-canal teeth. 9. Perform routine and surgical periodontal procedures. The scope of practice that a specific provider may perform is defined through the medical center credentialing and privileging process. The incumbent will function as an equal member within the larger team of staff Dentists and auxiliary staff. Individuals with specialized training in a particular specialty may be assigned section chief responsibilities for that subspecialty and may function as the primary clinician or subject matter expert responsible for formulating policy, procedures, education, and training affecting the daily clinical operations of the subspecialty. As a staff Dentist, the incumbent may provide education and training to members of the medical staff through various conferences, committees, and lecture series. The incumbent may be assigned administrative or managerial responsibilities through participation in clinical, educational, and administrative committees, task groups or special projects. SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: Dentists are licensed independent practitioners that practice based on their specific approved privileges and guidance derived from VHA, Medical Center and Service Directives/Memorandums. All dentists are supervised by Chief of Dental Services. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm. Must pass pre-employment physical examination. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). Qualifications Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Dentist Basic Requirements A degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of education in dentistry. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are (1) United States and Canadian schools of dentistry listed by the Commission on Dental Accreditation(CODA), in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed.(2) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia as qualifying for full and unrestricted licensure provided the licensure requirements include a written examination measuring science achievement and a performance examination measuring clinical competence certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant. ~AND~ Completed, or you are currently completing, a residency program in general practice or specialty, or comparable experience as a dentist actively involved in treating medically compromised patients. ~AND~ Currently hold, or will hold, a current, full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Note: Dentists must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.
