Job Title: DCAA Compliance Accountant / Cost Accountant – Government Contracting
Job Description
This role focuses on government contract accounting, cost compliance, and audit readiness in a defense contracting environment. The DCAA Compliance Accountant / Cost Accountant operates with an “audit‑ready every day” mindset, embedding FAR‑compliant practices into daily accounting activities so that future audits require minimal preparation. The position also leverages Deltek Replicon as a payroll and hours‑tracking system to support financial analysis, cost monitoring, and planning across defense programs. As part of a small, growing defense organization, this role offers the opportunity to wear multiple hats, work closely with leadership, and expand responsibilities as the business scales.
Responsibilities
Maintain continuous compliance with FAR, CAS, and related government cost accounting regulations, with specific emphasis on FAR 31.205.Apply FAR 31.205 cost principles on a daily basis to properly identify and treat allowable and unallowable costs.Maintain ongoing audit readiness so that DCAA audits require minimal last‑minute preparation.Support DCAA audits, including incurred cost submissions, pre‑award surveys, and accounting system reviews.Establish, analyze, and support indirect cost rates with strong audit defensibility.Structure and monitor direct labor and costs by contract and project to ensure accurate cost allocation.Use Deltek Replicon for labor distribution and hours tracking to support compliant cost accounting.Perform payroll‑based cost analysis to ensure accurate and compliant labor and overhead charging.Leverage Deltek Replicon data for financial analysis, forecasting, and planning tied to government programs.Proactively identify and address compliance risks before they develop into audit issues.Partner with leadership, engineering teams, and external auditors to support audit‑safe decision making.Support the continued build‑out and improvement of defense‑specific accounting and compliance processes.Essential Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.Experience supporting government contract accounting in a defense or federal contracting environment.Direct, hands‑on experience applying FAR Part 31.205; general familiarity is not sufficient.Experience supporting or interfacing with DCAA audits.Working knowledge of CAS and related government cost accounting requirements.Experience using Deltek Replicon, or similar Deltek tools, for payroll and hours tracking.Experience using Deltek Replicon, or similar Deltek tools, for cost analysis and financial planning.Ability to obtain a U.S. government security clearance.Experience in fund accounting, cost accounting, and financial reporting and analysis.Practical knowledge of FAR and DCAA audit processes.Additional Skills & Qualifications
Former DCAA auditor experience or direct, extensive interface experience with DCAA.Experience as a Sr. Cost Accountant, Compliance Accountant, or similar role in a government‑contracting environment.Experience using Deltek data beyond timekeeping, including variance analysis, forecasting, and planning.Professional certifications such as CPA or CDFM.Interest in working in a small, growing defense organization with high visibility and impact.Desire to help shape long‑term, audit‑ready processes from the ground up in a growth‑oriented role.Work Environment
This position is based in an office environment and follows a Monday through Friday schedule from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on site. The role relies heavily on Deltek Replicon and related financial systems for timekeeping, payroll, cost analysis, and planning. As part of a small, scaling defense organization, the work environment is collaborative and fast‑paced, offering close interaction with leadership and engineering teams and the opportunity to influence and build out defense‑specific accounting and compliance processes.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
