- Continuously assess and monitor the mother's vital signs and fetal heart rate throughout labor
- Evaluate labor progress and are trained to recognize any complications that may arise.
- Provide emotional and physical support to mothers during labor, assisting with pain management techniques, positioning, and relaxation exercises.
- Educate mothers and their families about the birthing process, breastfeeding, and newborn care, ensuring they are informed and prepared for the experience.
- During delivery help ensure a safe environment, assist with medical procedures, and provide necessary equipment to the healthcare team and administer medications as prescribed.
- After delivery, provide care to both the mother and newborn, assisting with breastfeeding, performing initial assessments of the newborn's health, and offering guidance on postpartum recovery.
- Respond quickly to obstetric emergencies, such as complications during labor or delivery, and may assist with emergency procedures like cesarean sections or newborn resuscitation.
- Assesses, documents, and intervenes in cases of suspected abuse or neglect.
- Recognizes potential emergency or life-threatening situations and implement preventive measures.
- Follows hospital protocol and physician orders regarding the use of restraints when applicable.
- Maintains knowledge of therapeutic effects, interactions, and administration of medication.
- Accurately administers and initiates intravenous therapy, including medication, blood, blood products, and cardiac drips.
- Uses the Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) process and electronic medical record (EMR) for patient information retrieval.
- Communicates effectively with healthcare teams, respond to requests, build rapport, and participate in team problem-solving.
- Maintains licensure(s), skills, and education required to work in the Emergency Department.
- Other duties as assigned

Skills and Requirements
Associate's degree in nursing
State of Texas nursing license or Compact State nursing license
BLS, ACLS, or PALS certification Bachelor's degree in nursing
2 years of experience in L&D nursing
