The Cloud and Connectivity organization is actively looking for an Oracle Database Site Reliability Engineer to join our team. For solving complex challenges and driving large-scale impact here is the opportunity to shape the future of global Oracle database operations across on-prem, ExaCC, and multi-cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP) through automation and AI-driven solutions.

Job Summary: 

Oracle Database Reliability Engineer will be supporting mission-critical Oracle database environments across on-prem, Exadata Cloud@Customer, and multicloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).

Also responsible for driving automation of day-to-day DBA tasks, enabling multi-cloud database operations and migrations, and ensuring cost-effective and secure environments.

The role provides opportunities to work with Oracle PaaS/IaaS services, qualify and adopt new database technologies, and implement CI/CD pipelines to automate deployments.

As part of this role, you will Collaborate with SMEs, Cloud Infrastructure, and Self-Service Enabling teams to bring enhancements and automation to database operations.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Database Reliability Operations:

Provide day-to-day administration, monitoring, and support for Oracle databases (19c/21c and above).

Improve service qualification and database lifecycle management through automation at an enterprise scale.

Ensure compliance with Lilly security standards by performing vulnerability scanning, timely patching, and upgrades.

Work on AI-driven insights to improve observability, reliability, and proactive incident prevention.

Manage database performance tuning, backup/recovery (RMAN, Data Guard), patching, and upgrades.

Ensure database availability, resiliency, and security compliance 24/7/365.

Automation & Innovation

Develop scripts/tools (Python, Shell, Ansible, Terraform, or similar) to automate repetitive DBA tasks (patching, health checks, provisioning, monitoring).

Implement AIOps practices for proactive issue detection, anomaly detection, and predictive alerting.

Multicloud & Database Modernization

Support and administer Oracle workloads across on-premises, Exadata Cloud at Customer (ExaCC), and public cloud platforms (OCI, AWS RDS/Aurora, Azure, GCP Cloud).

Participate in database migrations to cloud (lift-and-shift, re-platforming, or modernization to PDBs/multitenant).

Assist with database replication, DR solutions, and cross-cloud failover planning.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

Work closely with operations, application, and cloud engineering teams to deliver reliable database services.

Drive innovation through automation, monitoring, and AI-driven solutions to reduce manual efforts.

Document best practices, runbooks, and operational procedures.

Required Skills & Experience:

Database Installation & Configuration

Install, configure, and maintain Oracle Database (12c, 19c, 21c).

Configure Oracle Grid Infrastructure and ASM (Automatic Storage Management).

Manage multitenant architecture (CDB/PDB creation, cloning, unplug/plug, consolidation).

User & Security Management

Create and manage database users, roles, and privileges.

Implement fine-grained access control, VPD, and Database Vault.

Knowledge of auditing, TDE (Transparent Data Encryption), and database security best practices.

Backup & Recovery

Proficient with RMAN for backups, restores, and recovery.

Implement incremental, full, and image backups.

Perform point-in-time recovery, tablespace recovery, and cross-platform backups.

Knowledge of Flashback technologies.

Performance Tuning & Optimization

Diagnose performance issues using AWR, ASH, ADDM, and SQL Tuning Advisor.

SQL query tuning and optimizer statistics management.

Memory management (SGA, PGA tuning).

Troubleshooting, locking, latching, and wait events.

High Availability (HA)

Oracle RAC (Real Application Clusters) administration.

Clusterware installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.

Oracle ASM disk groups management for RAC and standalone environments.

Disaster Recovery (DR)

Oracle Data Guard (Physical, Logical, Snapshot standby) configuration and management.

Active Data Guard for read-only workload offloading.

Switchover, failover, and role transition testing.

DR strategy planning and execution in hybrid/multicloud environments.

Patching & Upgrades

Apply PSU/RU patches, DB upgrades, and patchset installation.

Experience with Database Migration Assistant (DBUA) and manual upgrade processes.

Exposure to Exadata patching cycles.

Storage & Space Management

Tablespace and datafile management.

Partitioning strategies for large tables.

Monitoring growth trends and capacity planning.

Monitoring & Troubleshooting

Proficiency with Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM/24ai) for monitoring and alerting.

Troubleshoot ORA- errors, deadlocks, performance bottlenecks, and job failures.

Develop health check scripts for proactive monitoring.

Automation Skills

Proficiency in scripting languages (Shell, Python, Perl).

Experience with automation/orchestration tools (Ansible, Terraform, Jenkins).

Exposure to OEM (Oracle Enterprise Manager), 24ai, or other monitoring/automation frameworks.

Cloud & Multicloud Knowledge

Hands-on with Oracle Cloud (OCI DBaaS, ExaCC, Autonomous DB).

Working knowledge of AWS RDS/Aurora, Azure SQL/Managed Instances, GCP Cloud.

Experience in database migration strategies (GoldenGate, Data Pump, DMS, RMAN cross-platform).

Soft Skills:

Your Qualification: 

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, MCA, or a related technical field.

3-9 years of experience as an Oracle Platform Engineer in an enterprise environment with relevant experience in Oracle database administration plus supporting mission-critical production environments.

Additional Skills/Requirements:

Strong hands-on experience in Oracle Database Administration (Core DBA, RAC, Data Guard, RMAN, Performance Tuning).

Knowledge of Oracle Multitenant architecture (CDB/PDB) and Autonomous Database.

Experience with automation frameworks such as Ansible, Terraform for database provisioning and patching.

Familiarity with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or equivalent) for database deployment automation.

Exposure to Kubernetes / Docker for database containerization.

Proficiency with scripting languages (Shell, Python, PL/SQL) to automate DBA tasks.

Hands-on experience with ServiceNow or equivalent ticketing tools for incident/change management.

The ability to maintain detailed documentation aligned with Security, Compliance, and CSQA standards.

Desirable Skills:

Exposure to AI/ML-driven monitoring or AIOps tools for predictive insights and automated remediation.

Experience with cross-platform database migrations (Linux ↔ Windows, On-Prem ↔ Cloud, Multicloud).

Familiarity with multicloud environments (Oracle Cloud, AWS, Azure, GCP) for database deployment and operations.

Knowledge of project management methodologies (Agile/Scrum) to collaborate effectively in global teams.

Experience with cloud-native databases and hybrid deployment models is an added advantage.
