Position Summary:  

The Database Engineer is an integral part of the Technology Operations team and overall service delivery of production and development systems. The Database Engineer is responsible for administering databases along all aspects of the service lifecycle. This position requires a diligent pursuit to develop, scale, improve, and support database services within the organization. A successful Database Engineer demonstrates behaviors that embody the DevOps culture and possess a strong ability to learn new skills and work across functional areas. 

 

Key Responsibilities:  

Manage the deployment, configuration, monitoring, and ongoing operations of relational and non-relational database servicesEngage with Development teams and Operations peers to develop, scale and improve database systems and servicesAdminister systems as assigned to provide appropriate documentation, capacity management, monitoring, and recommendations for future stateParticipate in a production support on-call rotation, completing incident and problem management tasks as assignedEscalate support tasks to other teams or technology management when neededDevelop and maintain backup and recovery procedures for database servicesDevelop reports and other applications necessary to support database service operationsAdminister user and application access to database servicesCreate and support scripts for use in daily maintenance and troubleshooting tasks; demonstrate troubleshooting skills to provide resolution to incidents and problem management projectsUnderstand and follow procedures identified by SOX and other security standardsMeet or exceed performance, availability, and recoverability requirements for database servicesWork collaboratively with team members to analyze current systems and recommend and implement changes to current systems

Hybrid - Minneapolis, MN

 

Required Qualifications:  

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or an advanced degree without experience; or equivalent combination of education and experienceExperience interacting with databases and working knowledge of database structures and designExperience supporting Oracle, Postgres, or MySQLExperience with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Azure, or other cloud computing servicesExperience with Python or other programming language outside of shell scriptingExperience with software version control like git or SVNAbility to balance multiple projects and tasks concurrently in a fast-paced environmentStrong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate (written and verbal) with persons at all levels of the organizationAdherence to the highest quality standardsAbility to think strategically, as well as curiosity to develop additional technical skills

 

Preferred Qualifications:  

Basic systems engineering skills on Linux with experience running databases on LinuxExperience with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Azure, or other cloud computing servicesExperience with TerraformExperience with Ansible, Chef, or any other configuration and automation management frameworkAbility to understand application architecture and its impact on database designExperience and practical knowledge of agile development process

 

 

What We Offer:

The salary range for this role considers several factors, including education, relevant skills, work history, certifications, location, and more.  

The annual salary range for this role is: $83,200 - $120,000. The actual salary offered will be determined based on the factors listed above and may fall anywhere within the range.
