Job Summary:

DENSO North American IT (NAITS) manages and maintains several on premise database systems across North America. Technologies include SQL server Oracle and iSeries DB2/AS400.  Current and future development will be adding cloud-based Aurora, iSeries/Db2 and SQL server technologies with other technologies under consideration.  NAITS also supports data movement between internal, external and hybrid systems, with and without transformation or aggregations. 

The role of the DBA must work to support administration and development of existing SQL Server databases as well as new database systems to be determined.

Essential Responsibilities:

Under superior’s supervision:

Manage on premise SQL server database instances under IT authority  Develop action plans to mitigate risks in decision-making while leveraging data science  Searching through large, complex data sets for usable information  Joining dissimilar data sets into a useful data model  Support and build replication or other data movement technologies  Organize and coordinate with team members to resolve issues  Utilize change management tools to document and gate all changes that could affect production systems  Building tools to automate data collection  Utilize source control tools and best practices while developing solutions  Develop complex processes and ETL between data warehouse or business intelligence applications or systems  Learn quickly through on the job experience and structured training  Find unique solutions to difficult problems  Model and document database scheme and processes  Supply support and research for future technologies or processes  Support non-inhouse SQL server instance management through collaboration with peers  Provide support and respond to production-down emergencies 24/7  Work in a hybrid agile environment  Provide database query tuning and optimizations support and recommendations  Takes ownership and accountability for decision making. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Level of Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Experience:

5+ years in software development, IT, or a related field (including internships or coursework).

Minimum Level of Knowledge and Skills Required:

Advanced knowledge of transactional systems development workflows  Advanced knowledge of SQL server and other database management systems throughout the entire development lifecycle  Moderate to Advanced knowledge of data warehouse system development workflows  Ability to work well with a team of peers on difficult projects  Provide excellent customer experience  Firm knowledge of the core SQL language with emphasis on TSQL and DB2 dialect differences  Knowledge of database sizing and monitoring  Knowledge of upgrading and migration of SQL server databases to newer versions  Experience managing and monitoring multiple database servers and instances  Experience with High Availability or Windows Cluster technologies for HA/DR  Experience with database backup and recovery tools and patterns  Experience with Dev Ops processes and tools a plus Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.   Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment​.

Leadership Responsibility:

No formal management or leadership authority.                    

Preferred Qualifications:

SQL Server administration certification. Programming with a robust depth of programming knowledge. Understanding of process mapping, business analysis, and design principles. Experience with workflow tools, databases, and APIs. Experience with Qlik. Proficiency in Transact SQL.

Annual Salary: $94,000-$117,000
