A Database Administrator II is responsible for the performance, integrity, and security of PostgreSQL databases to support the organization’s computing environment. Under direct supervision, the Database Administrator II will work through project-related activities as well as day-to-day operational tasks related to PostgreSQL systems in on-prem, cloud, and hybrid environments.
Essential Job Functions
Install, configure, patch, and upgrade PostgreSQL databases (version 11 and above) in on-prem and cloud environments (AWS RDS, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, GCP Cloud SQL).
Monitor and optimize database performance; write, debug, and tune complex SQL and PL/pgSQL queries.
Manage and test backup and disaster recovery strategies using native PostgreSQL tools (pg_dump, pg_basebackup, WAL archiving, etc.) and cloud-native services.
Configure and support high availability and replication solutions (e.g., streaming replication, logical replication, Patroni, pgPool-II).
Participate in weekly rotating on-call shifts and respond to alerts, incidents, and outages in real time.
Perform after-hours maintenance activities and support application code deployments during nights and weekends as needed.
Use a ticketing system (e.g., Jira, ServiceNow) to manage and prioritize tasks.
Use version control systems (e.g., Git, Bitbucket) to maintain and deploy database code, schemas, and scripts.
Collaborate with development, operations, and infrastructure teams to provide database expertise and ensure system stability.
Be open to learning and supporting additional RDBMS platforms (e.g., MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server) as needed.
Required Qualifications:
Proven experience as a DBA supporting PostgreSQL (11 and above) in enterprise environments.
Strong SQL and PL/pgSQL skills with experience debugging, tuning, and planning rollbacks.
Experience with PostgreSQL backup and recovery, replication, and high availability architectures.
Familiarity with connection pooling and resource management (e.g., pgBouncer, pgPool-II).
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and efficiently context switch in a fast-paced setting.
Comfortable working independently and proactively engaging in team activities.
Willingness to work on-call and during off-hours for critical support and maintenance windows.
Experience using ticketing and version control systems.

Required:
College degree or equivalent experience
5+ years of database administration experience with PostgreSQL
Exceptional problem-solving skills
Above average oral and written communications skills
Willingness to work flexible schedule including nights/weekends
Must work well in a team environment
Must be able to learn independently
