Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Customer Channels Group is seeking an IDMS Database Administrator to support the reliability, availability, and performance of IDMS databases critical to our business operations. How You Will Make an Impact:Assist with monitoring, maintaining, and supporting IDMS databases.Participate in daily operational tasks, such as backup monitoring, space allocation, and data integrity checks.Help analyze system performance and gather metrics to support tuning and optimization activities.Contribute to change control processes by documenting database modifications, updates, and deployments.Collaborate with development and application support teams to resolve basic database-related issues.Learn to interpret and update database schema definitions, sets, and record structures within the IDMS environment.Support planned maintenance windows, database reorganizations, and version upgrades as needed.Engage in training, documentation, and peer mentoring opportunities to accelerate learning and confidence in the role.Experience:Demonstrated curiosity and commitment to developing skills in database administration and mainframe technologies.Ability to follow structured processes and operational guidelines with high attention to detail.Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset; willing to ask questions and take initiative to learn.Effective communicator—able to work closely with teammates, document work, and share updates clearly.Comfortable navigating technical environments and collaborating with cross-functional teams.Exposure to databases, programming, or systems administration through coursework, internships, or self-guided projects is a plus.EducationBachelor’s degree is preferredParticipation in a technical co-op, internship, or relevant certification program is beneficial but not required.Preferred QualificationsBasic understanding of database concepts such as schemas, records, indexes, and query logic.Familiarity with COBOL, JCL, or mainframe systems through school, training, or hands-on practice.Awareness of hierarchical or network database models like IDMS.Willingness to pursue training or certifications in database administration, mainframe operations, or legacy system support.Enthusiasm for contributing to modernization efforts and learning how legacy systems integrate with new technologies.Benefits:We offer competitive remuneration, annual incentive plan bonus, healthcare, and a range of employee benefits.
