Job Description
This role is responsible for leading the use of data to make decisions. This includes: the development and management of new machine learning predictive modeling algorithms, the coding/development of tools that use machine learning/predictive modeling to make business decisions, searching for and integrating new data (both internal and external) that improves our modeling and machine learning results (and ultimately our decisions), and discovery of solutions to business problems that can be solved through the use of machine learning/predictive modeling. This role will also manage projects of medium complexity. The role will begin to provide some mentoring and development support to help develop new data scientists.ResponsibilitiesUtilizes effective project planning techniques to break down moderately complex and occasionally complex machine learning and/or development projects into tasks and ensure deadlines are keptApplies best practices in statistical modeling, machine learning, deep learning, and NLP to develop predictive models that solve business problemsIdentifies and uses programming languages and tools (such as Python, R, SQL, and Linux) that bring efficiency and innovation to the teamCollaborates across teams to build and implement predictive models that improve decision-makingReviews and communicates modeling results to teams, stakeholders, and leadership in a clear and actionable wayBegins to mentor and support junior data scientists in both technical and business-facing skill developmentStays current with industry trends and contributes new ideas for data sourcing, model innovation, and business impactExperience or understanding of insurance industry data and use cases is a strong plusPreferred Qualifications:Master’s Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or related field3+ years of relevant experienceHands-on experience with Python, R, SQL, and working in Linux environmentsFamiliarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) is a plusStrong background in NLP and deep learningPrior exposure to the insurance industry or other regulated domains is preferredSupervisory Responsibilities• This job does not have supervisory duties.Education & Experience (in lieu)• In lieu of the above education requirements, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.Compensation
