**Job Description**
The Data Scientist Intern will support the AI Assurance Team in validating and monitoring AI applications—both Generative and Non-Generative—within the Mount Sinai Health System. This role offers hands-on experience in machine learning operations (MLOps), AI governance, and the deployment of AI models in real-world clinical environments.
The intern will collaborate with data scientists, product managers, clinicians, and engineers to learn and contribute to the safe, ethical, and efficient deployment of AI products.
**Qualifications**
+ High School Diploma or GED required; Associates or greater depending on department and role.
+ None, though some administrative exposure is a plus
**Strongly preferred requirements for this specific position:**
+ Master's degree or PhD in in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Bioinformatics, or a related field)
+ Exposure to at least one programming language among Scala, Python, Java, C, or C++ Basic knowledge of database languages (e.g., SQL, NoSQL).
+ Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP)
+ Deep conceptual understanding of machine learning and deep learning principles
+ Experience with version control tools (e.g., Git).
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills
+ Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams
Other skills preferred, not required:
+ Experience with containerization tools (Docker) and CD/CI tools in Microsoft Azure
+ Familiarity with model tracking tools (e.g., MLflow)

**Compensation Statement**
The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $16.50 - $30.00 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. **Responsibilities**
**_General Data Science & MLOps_**
+ Develop and test Data Curation Models under supervision of MLOPs Scientist
+ Develop and Test Performance evaluation Modules for genAI and non-genAI Applications
+ Participate in testing machine learning applications and preparing documentation
+ Collaborate with team members in quality assurance and product deployment activities
**_AI Product Validation & Governance_**
+ Assist in the validation process of AI products to ensure they meet ethical, regulatory, and clinical standards.
+ Help implement basic testing workflows to assess model fairness, robustness, and performance.
+ Contribute to monitoring efforts, including develop and deploy monitoring and notification system to detect drift and performance degradation
**_Communication & Documentation_**
+ Help maintain organized documentation of processes, test results, and governance protocols.
+ Participate in team discussions and support the creation of presentations or reports for various stakeholders.
+ Communicate findings in a clear and structured format to both technical and non-technical team members.
